Patient Hospital Records

Does anyone know how long records are kept with regard to patients who actually died whilst in hospital?

I had to search ages for this but this came up on a Hospital site for London area, I don't know if its standard but it might give you some idea.

2.4 Retention and Destruction
All patient records will be retained in accordance with HSC 1999/53 “For the Record” In summary, this is as follows:
• Mental Health – 20 years after no further treatment considered necessary or 8 years after death
• Children and young people – until the patient’s 25th birthday, or 26th if the young person was 17 at conclusion of treatment
• Deceased persons – 8 years after death
If records are required to be kept for a longer period than stated, e.g. in cases of litigation and for research purposes, they must be clearly marked as such on the outside of the patient record folder

I was going to post a new message but i didnt want it to get hi-jacked and i did not want to write my sympathies in any other message on here where other 'issues' are being discussed.

Cheers DD, pity of it is I been expecting bad news about a different uncle, so this was a shock really.

I am not sure, I hope they never get rid of them. They have so much info on my if I was a fugitive that would surely find me.
