The Grand Arcade

Started by: grimmy boy (4)

I have been to the Grand Arcade on a saturday. We got there early and by dinner time the place was packed!! On two occasions we came across accidents! A shelf falling in a shop, and a woman collapsed, not to mention the parking. Horrible! We got lost trying to find the car. If you ask me, It's more harm than good and who ever designed in needs to re think everything

Never having been there, and with no intention of ever going there, I go to places that give ease of parking, surely, there isn't very much that can't be found in other boroughs, aren't all the shops/stores the same wherever you go? All town centres looking the same?

I'm taking the kids in either today or tomorrow, I've heard a lot of good things about it, but far more complaints.I won't be using their car park thats for sure . Its principle, I am not paying their prices when I can park a couple of minutes away for longer and for less.
I was expecting a sort of mini trafford centre, but it sounds like theres been a lot of exageration over the facilities in there, maybe its just early days and they will iron the problems out.
To be honest, I've always liked the galleries, its bound to give them a knock, it would have been cheaper to get that place sorted properly its such a shame that there have been shops sitting empty all this time, lower rents would sort that.
My kids are really excited about going, so hopefully it won't be a let down for them!

No matter how good the building, these places need more TOILETS. My elderly mother needs to go when she needs to go. She won't now even let me take her to Wigan at all, because of how FEW in a growing bigger and bigger Town we have.

Can anyone see the point in the extra money that was spent in keeping the front
of the old SHIP HOTEL.It must have cost many thousands of pounds with all the extra work involved and basically all it is now is a WALL! Can`t say I would have bothered unless they were going to incorperate a bar or restruant into the developement, which would have been a nice change from all the clothes shops.

I wasn't that impressed with the arcade. It's not as big as i thought and the shops aren't that good. i went on a shopping spree and ended up buying stuff from Bay and Mk1.

Took my mam and the kids yesterday, walked the length of it, then went up the elevator......n back down and then back out. Its not what I expected at all. Can't beat the galleries, the shops on the main street and the market. It doesn't have that cosey northern feel about it that the galleries have.High ceilings and that aint for me.
Its nice they got the 'posh ' shops in there, but with 2 kids and 3 step kids my dosh got to go a long way, so won't be using them myself.
mind you......I cried when they knocked the old market hall down , so it might grow on me yet.

It's going to have a grand parade for the grand opening of the wait for it!! GRAND ARCADE. There is going to be a carnival type parade starting at mesnes park with hundreds of school children, horse drawn carriages, celebrity look-a-likes and street theatre acts. Oh yes and special guests Lemar & Jamelia.

perhaps I did the wrong thing visiting the Trafford Centre before the Grand Arcade while I was over there on holiday a couple of weeks ago.
There doesn't look much to the Arcade at all, the one thing it did do was get rid of run down and smelly building in station road, that was a plus!

It doesn't subtract anything from the older Wigan center that still looks great to an ex-pat while walking through eating a pork pie!!!
