Help!

I pay my car tax monthly, but today I’ve received an email from DVLA to say that my recent payment failed. Is this genuine before I try again? I’ve checked online and my car is still taxed up to 1 June. I tried emailing back to ask a question, but that didn’t go through but I got a MAILER-DAEMON back. This is all very peculiar.

I followed the instructions to update my details but I got stuck on one bit. What the heck is a CVV, and where do I find it?

I haven’t yet received my Feb - Mar bank statement, so I can’t check to see if any other direct debits have gone through or not.

Ignore it. Check with bank to see if your payment has left your account.
More importantly, don’t worry about it. It’s only road tax!

CVV stands for card verification value. It's a 3-digit security code you can find on both older and newer credit cards. On the back of the card. That MAILER-DAEMON usually means it's not a good email address.

Many thanks First Mate, Tonker & Mrs M.

I did get a bit suspicious when I saw the "email" address at the top as it didn't seem genuine, so decided to ask on here first as I always get sensible replies. Well, most of the time anyway!

Tonker, I will check my bank statement when it comes.

I'd be on to the bank straight away. Where did they ask you to send the information you'd already typed in if your enquiry email bounced back?

I didn't get that far, First Mate. I stopped when I was asked to enter my CVV number, but it was an online form with boxes to fill in.

Also, it would be easier to get an audience with the king than to get through to a human at my bank, but I'll try tomorrow.

So did you click on a link to fill in the form. If so you should change all your passwords.

Edit Change them anyway

What it was, was a letter, as follows. Of course, Licensing is incorrectly spelt, so another suspicion there@

Driver & Vehicle Lisencing Agency

If you clicked on a link the scammers will most likely know more about you
than you care for them to know. Advice never ever click on a link in an email that you dont know who the sender is.

Call your banks security and inform them. Your call will almost certainly be answered very quickly. Have any info to hand

First Mate, I normally never click on any link as I know what problems can arise but this, at first glance, appeared to be genuine enough and, by the time I realised it may not be, I'd already clicked on that link. If it had gone into Spam I would have just deleted it immediately.

Tonker, I've said it afore, and I'll say it again. Yer a bad lad!
