Wigan?

Where is it?

As I had to look for an address today, in Wigan, I typed 'Wigan' into Google Maps.
What it came up with was THIS.
'Wigan' is supposed to be the area inside of the red dotted line?
Hmmmmmm. I would understand if it showed 'Wigan', or if it showed 'Wigan Borough' or 'Wigan Metropolitan Borough'. Or 'Wigan Parish' even.
But what's that supposed to be?
A part of Ashton in Makerfield in Wigan? A part of Ince in Wigan? A bit of Orrell but all of Winstanley?

Odd - very odd.

Mr Google wants a kick in the spuds. I wonder where they get their information?

I think it is just a 'depiction' of Wigan done by Google, as a 'splodge' on a map, a 'representation' of where Wigan is and it's approximate size, which is wrong.
