They use to say British legal system envy of the world after reading that I dont think we have any. Well said it is time for a shake up all round.

Pitch in and have a go then.

They are crying out for people to become Magistrates at the moment.

Aye, and magistrates have been given extra powers. The can send convicts to prison for 12 months, as opposed to 6 months like it was.

tonker,

But have they made it that will serve the full 12 months and still be out in half the time because the prisons are overcrowded.

Ena Melcup,

With the result that those they do appoint, will be even more soft and the do gooder standard than what they have now.
'
Another reason why crime is rising at an alarming rate as result of the increasing drop in lower judgements.

What we need is few Judge Jefferies where sentences are concerned.

If you want to commit a crime,
go for a grand financial crime in UK.

The takings can be Millions, possibly Billions.

and they don't punish you for it at all!

If you are a poor pensioner, try robbing a bank, no problems at all if you gat away with it, if you don't you will be an hero in jail and also well looked after.

If the Channel 4 programe 'Screw' which was filmed in Peterhead Prison is anything to go by, its no wonder the prisons are overcrowded when the mixed sex guards are as bad as the prisoners, fighting by prisoners over drugs supplied by guards with no hard work as part of the punishment.

The prison service is short of a few 'Mr McKays' where discipline is concerned.

They’ll be lucky to emerge from their sentence in one piece.

ENA / I think they are talking about judges and not magistrates for we all know magistrates have even LESS powers and are about as good as the proverbial chocolate fire guard .gb
