Covid-19 Omicron Variant

It seems that the governments of the world have been waiting for a while for a new variant of this Coronavirus to surface, and they have already had contingency plans in place, to put into operation, if a new variant appears.
In the UK they have put travel bans back in place, and the wearing of masks in retail environments, and on public transport, is to become 'mandatory' again.

Last week I had me booster jab, but there was a bit of hassle in that from the week before I had a text message from the NHS inviting me to be jabbed, but not at Robin Park, where I had me first two jabs, so I left it a few days hoping that my GP would send me an invite for the Robin Park Leisure Centre site, which is run by the Wigan Borough CCG (GP's)
After nearly a week, I decided to book the appointment via the NHS text, and it was ridiculous, the nearest vaccination centre was a pharmacy in Haydock,,,, Tonker Land
The list was basically vaccination centres in St Helens, which is also Tonker Land
Other places were in Horwich, Warrington, Whiston, Chorley Hospital, Leyland, and somewhere in Manchester, I have forgotten where.
So how did I keep being offered all of these different places ?
Well when you log on to the NHS booking system, it gives a list of five vaccination sites, the nearest site first, and by keep going back to the first screen and putting in different requirements, by ticking different boxes, you can get offered different places, and the standard wait was until about the second week in December, but on the system other times were popping up in different locations, which was obviously down to cancellations, and some of these were from as early as the next day, and the vaccination centre in Mesnes Street popped just once with an 8.00am appointment the day after, and it was gone in seconds, snapped up by a Wiganer.
I did all this messing around for about two hours, and I kept getting kicked off the system, but eventually I settled on an appointment at the Bolton Wanderers ground at Middlebrook in a couple of weeks time.
The day after this I got the invite text from me doctors, for the Robin Park site, so I cancelled my appointment with the NHS and when I went on to the Robin Park booking site, there were loads of appointments, I could have gone the day after, but I booked an appointment for Thursday, a two day wait.
The reason I have put all of this on, is that when yoo login to the NHS booking system, don't think that you have to book from that first list of vaccination centres, if there is not an appointment date or time you want, then keep going back and forth on the system, because cancelled appointments are popping up all the time, but if you choose one which is only the next day or in the next few days, make sure you book it straight away, because if you leave the page, it will be snapped up by someone else

2 days ago — UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid said from 12:00 GMT on Friday six countries would be added to the red list, with flights being temporarily banned.
All flights from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana , Lesotho and Eswatini are being suspended.
From midday non-UK and Irish residents will be banned from entering England if they have been in the six countries in the past 10 days.
today -
Mr Javid said the government had acted "swiftly" and "in a proportionate way".
But a doctor who treated the variant said there had been unnecessary panic.
Dr Angelique Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association and the South African doctor who treated early cases of the Omicron variant told the BBC countries could be "panicking unnecessarily" and the symptoms she had seen were "extremely mild".
She said she had first encountered the variant in patients who had fatigue, aches and pains, but no cough or change in sense of smell or taste. "We haven't admitted anyone," she said.
Then this ..........
"Tests on passengers on two flights into Amsterdam found 61 cases of Covid, of which 13 were the Omicron variant."
......... which doesn't make any sense at all !
Meanwhile, "Labour has called for full implementation of Plan B and for improved sick pay to encourage self-isolation."

Now they are saying from Tuesday I can walk down to the pub, decide I need something from the shop across from it, put a mask on to go in the shop, then cross the road and walk into the pub, mask off. Bizarre !! I think masks will make a comeback in all indoor settings by next weekend.

I sit here in Israel watching your ministers talk on the bbc news and you lot in the uk are fed so much bull shi@ about the vaccine!!! And now it's catching the government up ! The only reason your had to wait 6 months for the booster jab is that the uk gov could not get it faster in to the UK populations arms !!! the ideal time is 4 months by 6 months immunity is waning so there is NO medical reason why NOT to get it earlier and also IT'S 3 weeks between japs that is what the manufacturers recommendations..... They have been playing catch up all the way through this pandemic ... it's like they have been driving the car on red and trying to see how far they can get in the car instead of filling the tank up.....

That is a big difference in procurement numbers, and a lot of vaccine for the UK government to find.

I'ts getting very silly now, all around the world for A VARIANT that is yet to be proved dangerous. We will see in a few weeks.
Future variants (They will never end, like the common cold) will evolve.
I fear for our freedoms in future, mandatory jabs etc. are being advocated today by the EU leader in Brussels.
Germany & Austria also (They have form).
IF jabs become mandatory then I will point blank refuse any more.

All due respect too yoo both, but, Poppycock !!!!
All they have done is to recommend bringing forward the third dose, the booster, and I have had the two Oxford, AstraZeneca jabs, and the third jab was the Pfizer-BioNTech.
As explained by the scientists in the briefing, after the third dose, the waning immune response is boosted to over 90% which will provide protection from the variants, and there seems to have been a lethargic response from the public in having the third dose, the booster, maybe the government response to this new variant, which incidently seems to be a 'coordinated' worldwide response, is to give the people a collective kick up the arse to get that booster jab done

Three jabs + Flu jab in less than one year is enough for me. I will take a top up jab (with my flue jab) at the beginning of next winter. I will have serious doubts regards taking another, say two covid jabs next year.
News today is that 114million jabs are now on order for next two years, they already stock many millions. THAT is my concern. If we don't really need them give them to Africa etc.
Will this malarkey EVER end ?
Will we EVER get back to 2019 ?

If you watched the briefing, and the link is still there above, they explain that the Covid-19 vaccines being used, are the same vaccine as what was originally developed for Covid-19, when it was first found, and it is known as the Wuhan virus, and viruses mutate all the time, but if a mutation alters the virus enough, then it might affect the way that the original vaccine works, making it less effective, then it becomes a variant of concern, and so far there have been four variants of concern, beta, gamma, delta and omicron, so the variants of the virus, then have a slight mismatch to the original vaccine, but it was found that even with these mismatches, the vaccine still worked against the first three variants, to the extent that the vaccine did not require to be 'tweaked' to match the variants, but with this new variant 'omicron', it is not yet known if the vaccine will be any less effective against this new variant.
When the vaccine is beginning to be less effective against the variants, then the scientists will alter (tweak) the vaccine to match it to the emerging 'dominant' variants, this happens with floo every year, every year the flu vaccine, vaccinates against the three strains of floo, which the scientists think will be the most prevalent during the following winter flu season, and sometimes they get it wrong.
So they might alter the Covid vaccine, or they might not, it will depend on the science of the thing, but the booster shot everyone is getting at present, is the same vaccine, which there as been from the start, it is just boosting your immune system, and I think the scientists will just have to wait and see what happens with the virus, it might burn it's self out, because it cannot find enough 'hosts' to sustain it, because of immunisation, or it might not.

So does that mean with the massive increase in infections from Omicron, will the next announcement be that the virus infections are rising exponentially, out of control, which will mean that it is only a matter of time, before we are back in full lockdown, in January, or maybe before January.
Back to square one in less than three weeks, it is hard to grasp how quickly that this has happened

Vaccines either through insufficient uptake or inefficacy are insufficient.
Which leaves-Infection and hopefully survival to allow immunity to build up.This will lead to further disagreements
will vaccines aid the survival rate?
will restrictions keep infection rates at manageable levels?
According to Tonker I am on borrowed time anyway.Imagine the pension money and care home savings if the older generation do not survive this winter even.

Furthermore other countries demographics are far different from ours and they don’t all have an NHS of their own. It is difficult to say exactly what will happen in our country based on what we are told is happening in another. No doubt SA are in for a rough ride but we need to go off what our government say.

They might pass it on but, if they pass it on to a vaccinated person, that person won’t have it as bad.
If they pass it on to an unvaccinated person, that person has a chance of being quite ill with it. But not all unvaccinated people will be ill with it. Some won’t even know they’ve got it.

It is getting like this with the covid virus there are that many variants how many jabs will help hold it back The boffins are already saying we may need another booster jab making four plus there is a miracle pill ready to be used .Some sceptics are worried about the knock on effect of all these drugs in our system in the future

Wizzerwin, no, your immune system doesn’t kill viruses. It stops you from being affected by any virus you might contract. That’s why some infected people don’t know they are infected but still infect others. Viruses are produced to kill viruses. Wizzerwin, no, viruses die off on their own in time. As anybody who listened at school will tell you.
Thanks, Firstmate, for that honorary doctorate, I’ve got a wall-full of them in my office.
However, it should be for common sense rather than virology.

Tonker and Wizzerwin, should be on that Sage & Onion committee, and they should be giving those briefings with Boris from number 10, and Boris should introduce Tonker ,saying "Tonker will do the slides now"

THE DISTANCE FROM WIGAN TO DEESIDE IS 42.8 MILES PLUS 1 HOURS DRIVE ,SO THAT IS 85.5 MILES 2 HOURS BY CAR AND GOD KNOWS HOW LONG IT WOULD BE TO HAVE THE TEST . WHAT A COMPLETE AND UTTER JOKE ,AND THIS GOV TELLS US TO GET THE TEST'S AND JAB'S ,
SO my g/son will just sit it out at home in isolation .....THANKS BORIS FOR

GB, ring 119 and request a test.
My middle lad has caught it, at work. His boss has rung him and told him that 4, out of 6, employees are positive with it and asked him for a pcr result, for the record.
He rang yesterday afternoon for it, it came half an hour ago and I’m going now to post it!

He could pretend to be a lorry driver and go to Charnock Richard services for a test. We’d been going to Burtonwood services for ours.
There’s a couple of test sites within 5 miles of Wigan.
Replied: 30th Dec 2021 at 13:46
Where are these test sites within 5 miles of Wigan and can a person be tested there for the now regulated 2-day PCR test?

Melodyman, when you refer to …..
“the now regulated 2-day PCR test”
…… do you mean for travel? as you are expected to pay for that.
There are places to get that test right in Wigan as well as within 5 miles.
Replied: 2nd Jan 2022 at 18:02
Travel into the UK from EU. The costs are all over the place, some 15 quid, some over 100 quid.

My wife was getting the day 2 pcr for £20 at Eurofins test site, Birchwood. I don’t know if they are still operating though.
Same company operated at GoBen travel, Ashton in Makerfield.
Ashton old clinic do them, so do Boots, but they’re dear.
It’s better to do postal.
I get mine free, with my exemption!

Thanks! Tonker.

Replied: 2nd Jan 2022 at 19:30

Birchwood, but it’s gone up to £39.90!
I can’t get the link to work ……
But it’s ‘Eurofins’, which leads to ‘trust 1’.
My exemption (for the millionth time!) is …….
‘Bespoke Testing for Frequent Overseas Workers’.
If we drive over (ferry or tunnel) in a truck or large van, we get it free from Burtonwood services on the way out. Day 2 and 8 is free as above (btfow) whether I’m driving or not.

I was in Ada today, and I was surprised to see just how many folk were not wearing masks, and they were of all age groups too.
I think that folk are sick of the whole covid thing, and the contradictory crap coming out about it all the time.

It seems that this Omicron thing, has just been a 'flash in the pan' so to speak, it has disappeared overnight, or over a few nights, the news now is about Boris having a party.
Is this finally an end to the pandemic ?

At the beginnning of December, I said to my Wife, don't be surprised if the Government and their Scientific/Medical advisors will say that the variant is far worse than predicted, will need to introduce further restrictions over the Christmas period and then in mid/late January say that the variant is easing down.

Are we expected to believe that no other politicians in the Labour, Liberal Democrats, Green, SNP, PC and even the CP and SWP parties etc did not do the same as some in the Conservative Party have done during the last two years or so?
All tarred and feathered with the same brush when it comes to getting an avantage over we the general public.
Replied: 17th Jan 2022 at 07:56
Omicron, mix the words up and you get Moronic; they are taking the p***. Do people still believe this rubbish?. Why are people on here still watching the mainstream news?. Is anyone not aware that there are millions of people not falling for this Covid crap? there are protests taking place all over the world, including the UK, where people of all walks of life are standing shoulder to shoulder because they know all of these Covid restrictions, masks, vaccines etc is not about protecting us from a virus but is an excuse to control us, I mean how bloody obvious can this get? yet everyone (mostly the old) is still walking about face masks and taking an experimental vaccine (and yes it is experimental as it's never been thorough tested).
The PCR test doesn't test for a virus as the late Kary Mullis who invented the PCR test said so himself. And for forcing people in care jobs and hospitals to take the jab or else lose their job, well, that's against human rights.

Please don’t accept what I say, just search the internet for him and use your own judgment, remember it’s you and your families that are in the firing line.

Ashton Mon & Wizzywin
What happens if the next variant of Covd-19 is a much deadlier to humans variant, than what this Omicron variant is, what are you going to say then, if the present vaccines have not been upgraded to these newer variants, and vaccinated folk start becoming badly infected, and the NHS becomes overwhelmed, with dead and dying people ?
Replied: 20th Jan 2022 at 20:17

TTS, COVID 19 is a ‘variant’ of sars cov 2, which is a ‘variant’ of sars cov 1, along with countless numbers of ‘variants’ of coronavirus.
“We must learn to live with it”, says the ‘bright sparks’ who work in government.
Oh, aye? Just like we’ve been ‘living with it’ for years?
A set of tossers, they are, them men!
Deadliest disease ever? So, you report a positive pcr test and what do you get? An e-Mail that says “self isolate for ten days. If you feel unwell, take paracetamol. If you want, after five days, you can pay for another pcr test (called a ‘release test’) to cut short your self-isolation”!
Deadliest disease ever, my arse!
