It's not a village anymore, and I can't see how widening School Lane will help. They might want to start with re sequencing the traffic lights before someone gets killed.

WN1 we came up Rectory Lane today and the lights changed to green but there were cars still crossing onto the High Street Is this because there is not enough time delay between the lights or cars jumping the red light or both

Create off-road cycle routes - extend a public footpath - create 40 parking spaces ?????????

£6.6million ?

I suggest someone keeps a wary eye on that 'funding'!

"They might want to start with re sequencing the traffic lights before someone gets killed."

WN1 Standisher, I believe that a girl was killed at those traffic lights.
I knew the girl very well.

Those Standish traffic lights are a nightmare and have been for years; the traffic build-up is sometimes abysmal.
And! What is a solution, build more and more houses!

Ian, if you knew the girl very well, you know that she was killed at those traffic lights. If you didn't believe it you wouldn't say it.

As far as the traffic lights are concerned, they are safe if they are used correctly. The problem is the standard of driving.

It is simple really .......

If they had built the Northern M6 Link Road, from Wigan to the motorway junction at Standish, then that would have been alright wouldn't it, but they didn't build it did they

Tonker, a close friend told me that she was killed at the traffic lights. I wasn't there at the time, but I had no doubt in believing the words spoken to me.

It's quite simple really.
If you are in the 'straight ahead' lane, you don't turn right.
If you are in the 'turn right' lane, you don't turn left or go straight ahead.
If the traffic light turns to red, you stop.

I've been sat at the lights heading towards Wigan many times and as the lights change to green have seen 2 or 3 cars still coming down School Lane and across the junction. I've no doubt that drivers are running red lights here but lengthening the sequence will keep stationary cars just that whilst the numpties abuse the lights. Alternatively, put cameras on the lights with some of that 6 million.

Replied: 15th Sep 2021 at 10:11

There are bona fide millionaires living in Standish Basil, I know 2 or 3 myself, so they're not all ' 10 bob millionaires ' as you say. As for Standish, it's a lovely place, where I was born and bred. As for a village, no sorry, wrong description nowadays. Once upon a time. the village feel that it once had with its close knit community was a main reason why people wanted to live there., so property was built. Unfortunately, these developments for people wanting village life have destroyed the ambiance people were looking for if that makes sense. As for Old Standisher's, it's sad to see it now but as they say, that's progress !!

I know a lot of people from Standish, some of them being family. None of them are 'ten bob millionares' What a stupid, sweeping statement and one that smacks of the green eyed monster. But I except nothing positive from Baaazil.

People want to live there and mores to the point, they can afford to. So get over yourself.

It is just like buying a branded named pair of trainers, in that folk are buying the name, not what the trainer stands for in terms of quality and qualities, people who buy a property in Standish are spending a good portion of the purchase price for the name, the name of Standish, without any regard for the facilities and infrastructure which Standish has to offer.

I hate the phrase "They are concreting over everything" because in most cases it is a stupid remark, when referring to a new road, just go up in a plane and see how much room a motorway takes up, and it is nothing in comparison to the surrounds green areas, but in the case of Standish, when you add up how many houses have been built there in the last 30-40 years, they are indeed concreting over the place, and it is because builders know that if they build houses in Standish, they will get a high price for those houses, because the demand is there for those houses, because they are in Standish, and a builder told me that.

If I was a Standisher now, I would sell me property to some idiot who will pay a silly price for it, and I would go and buy a property somewhere else, and buy a better property, in a place which has better facilities and infrastructure, than what Standish has to offer

I remember a few years ago, we went out round Standish on New Years Eve and I remember being struck by how busy the pubs were, and how few people I knew. I could turn out on my own and know that I would run across someone I knew. I'm not sure I could do that these days, that and the fact there aren't as many pubs as there used to be. I've just been informed the new development at the bottom of Rectory Lane/Chorley Road is to be a retail park. What next !!

I assume it isn't the development near the bridge on rectory lane.

Do you mean the groundworks near the hotel/ rest home on Chorley road?

Where did you get that from?

I'm the same mon yet, they need to get the train station opened again to alleviate the traffic problem through Standish. With the increase in properties it may encourage some people to leave the car at home. The Rectory Lane site where it used to be would be perfect but if the new build is a retail park, they couldn't build it there. It would have been ideal.

A friend I was talking to told me. The access seems to be off Chorley Road opposite the Rest Home. If this road was used access wouldn't be a problem. Also Rectory Lane bridge isn't an issue, big traffic already pass under there. Bradley Lane, no chance.
