Part of the remit of having that new road, was to improove the quality of life for folk who live on Poolstock, and Poolstock Lane, and in the adjoining areas, and they are going to make Poolstock and Poolstock Lane, cycle only zones, vehicular traffic will be banned

they have tempory traffic lights at Carr Lane/Poolstock lane now as work is starting tomorrow So you have to find other ways of getting To and from Wigan , Golden bear, you can't keep putting more and more cars on the roads we all have to do our bit to ease the congestion, Cycling and walking is a good option and more healthy, not just for the cyclist/walker but for all because we are not polluting the atmosphere, AND before you start preaching to me about not everyone is lucky enough to able to cycle/walk, Well I do know that and symphonize with them but, there's one guy who comes up Poolstck Lane regularly riding his converted wheel chair, he has no legs at all and has two markers with flags on so the queuing traffic behind can see what the hold up is,
he gets my vote, what a guy,,

Wasn't the new road built for people to use instead of Poolstock Lane? I don't see the problem personally.

Cyclists should have to have an identity plate on their bike, insurance, and pay something.

they might do that one day Domo but, not yet, because they want people to use bikes, they are building cycling lanes, giving cyclist who use a bike to go to work incentives, We the cyclists enjoy the freedom of no cost transport and as long as the gov't dont catch us smiling it will remain free, Once they find out that, cycling is a joy and not a punishment,, Then they will tax us,, so don't tell um,,

ANGELWOOD :::
IFyou think the council did or doing this for the good people of POOLSTOCK then i think you must be delusional. They did all this with their aim of supposedly by-passing wigan with the original plan wes a road from the ORRELL JUNCTION ONTO TH ENEW ROAD WHICH WE HAVE BUT IT WAS PLANNED INSTEAD OF COMING OF INTO WIGAN THE PLANS WERE FOR IT TO CARRY ON THRO WESTWOOD UP TO WESTHOUGHTON AND THEN ONTO THE M61 ...So this council have cut it short and are using the excuse we are THINKING AND CARING FOR THE PEOPLE OF POOLSTOCJK MY A*SE . The upheavel this is going to cause will be etched the folk of poolstock for many,many months to come and for what PROGRESS !!!!!! BY THE WAY STAY SAFE G.B.

Golden Bear, according to the council document, the people of Poolstock were consulted about it and voted for it,

I thought the plan was to put traffic calming measures on Poolstock and Poolstock Lane to force through traffic into using the new road. There are still too many lorries not using the new road.

I don't think its that mortamarmbill I think those lorry drivers like blocking roads, you see loads park up to buy a pack of cigs or a pie and block the road, They can't do that on the new road cos if they stop, there's another lane to get past,
They just love blocking the first and second lanes on motorways by, both going 55 mph and this causes a ' rolling road block' , I'm not saying all wagon drivers are brain dead, just 99% of them are,

golden bear i have to agree wholeheartedly with your comments re the road narrowing on poolstock.in the dark a vehicle at that corner at grange ave /keats ave heading towards wigan could hit that kerb with very very serious consequences. it is particularly high and comes out far to far.
the other dangerous piece of "engineering"is on warrington road, again going into town but going up the new road that is parallel with little lane .this again is due to a cycle lane extending to far out into the carriage way .i have personally seen a number of vehicles cpme off warrington rd slightly early and hit that cycle lane extrusion fortuitously at a lowish speed.but the consequences could possibly be a flip over.
before any holier than thou poster says you should not be going so fast,human nature means we all make mistakes out on the road and if this kerb is hit ,serious injury or possibly a fatal accident cannot be ruled out. the clown council need to look at these possibilities beforehand.
finally to the complete wally of a, youve guessed it, a cyclist riding on the kerb down poolstock lane to town who came off the pavement without warning to avoid a number of pedestrians and then straight round a parked car ,i am the driver that had to swerve in order not to send you to A and E.
the two fingers you so vigorously waved at myself should have been going the other way you complete clucking moron.

BB, about your point of the cyclist, You said he came off the pavement to avoid pedestrians, That make him a considerate person, he was giving the pedestrians , 'right of Way' even though an inconsiderate motorist was parked, I'm assuming here with 2 wheels on the pavement as they usually do, If you had to swerve to avoid him, he must have been in front of you and therefore has the right of way, I'm glad to managed to avoid him so good on you for that but, You must keep a sharper outlook of what is going on around you, drive in a manner so you will able to react if something unexpected happens and stop, swerving is dangerous,

P.S that cyclist was't me by the way,
