Brazen thieves chucked a 380-year-old bell off a church roof before stealing it

The cast bronze bell is believed to have been taken from All Saints Church in Hindley last Wednesday (27 Jan).

However, volunteers only realised it was missing on Saturday when they discovered a perfect bell-shaped divot in a patch of grass in the churchyard

The thieves dropped a clanger there. (Sorry).

It’s fortunate no one was hurt. Hope it can be recovered.

It’s back - Facebook!

The scrap dealers telephoned our Reverend immediately

Glad they gave the Reverend a bell.

Should be easy to find the thieves as I think all payments for scrap have to be by cheque or bank transfer. Not allowed to buy scrap for cash ( sure Tomplum told us this last week)

Now then, Calderbanks won't take ANY metals off ANYBODY unless they give full I.D. and, even then, they won't pay cash, always paying into an account belonging to the I.D. holder via, transfer or cheque.

It follows that Calderbanks will know who's the culprit!
