Happy memories TTS... I was on HMS Andromeda up in Iceland during the Cod war 1975...ye gods was it cold up there. - 30 daily... Got to eat plenty cod from British trawlers... Rammed once by Icelandic gunship. "Thor" not much damage done. Happy days... Surely they don't want dusting again!!

I seem to remember that HMS Andromeda was sold off to India, I think, in the 90's.

On about the cold war, and how it nearly turned into a hot war, and if you think all that is in the past, then look what happened last Saturday.

The reds in Germany loved the cold war, in the British sector the soviet mission was in Bunde. They loved getting posted there and would be in the NAAFI getting stocked up with western goodies.

All NATO soldiers were issued with SOXMIS cards with instructions and phone numbers to report them if they were spotted lurking about and taking photos of things they shouldn't. We did the same too, legal spying on each other and everyone was happy.

I think the "cod wars" were far more unfriendly.
