What a shower....

Started by: chatty (9771)

332 Tory MPs yesterday voted down a motion tabled by Labour and backed by Marcus Rashford to extend free meals over the holidays for our poorest kids!
Just five Tory MPs rebelled against the goverment and backed Labour.
One Robert Halfon said "If we acknowledge that children risk going hungry in term time by providing them with free school meals we know they risk going hungry in the holidays to." ( Makes sense to me?)
Yet Tory Minister Paul Scully sparked fury by saying the bid would not be backed as kids "have been going hungry for years"

The same lot who will be receiving a £3300 pay rise next April amid the coronavirus crisis!

The Courtyard Wigan.

I'd like to say to any parents out there in Wigan with primary school kids on half term next week that are going to struggle without the free school meal please, please bring your children here and we will provide a free kids meal. We are open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4.15pm so if its breakfast, dinner or an early tea then please don't hesitate to pop in. Let's be honest they're probably not gonna get 1 of their 5 a day here with our menu but we can fill their bellies. This is available with complete discretion, we have to greet everyone at the door due to Covid guidelines so just quietly mention you've come for a school meal and we'll provide what we can. You don't need to buy anything yourselves, just let us help you if you need it next week.
Help us to share the heck out of this. Tell your children's teachers, tell anyone you know that's a primary school teacher, tell your friends at the school gates later or tomorrow morning. If you know anyone that will struggle to get here next week and you want to pick some kids meals up and deliver them then message us and we'll arrange a time slot for you to collect. I don't wanna stand with the 322 MP's that said no to extending the free school meals scheme, I wanna stand with Marcus Rashford. Please share this message to whoever you can.
Thanks.

Well done to The Courtyard Cafe.

Boris probably wouldnt let his kids starve, if for no other reason than having the good fortune to be born into privilege (This is the guy who reckons he can 't survive on the PMs income by the way, well he can do us all a favour then) he would never know what it's like to struggle to put food on the table for hungry children.
Are you honestly suggesting that every kid going hungry is due to the fact that their parents aren't taking "responsibility"
Some people are juggling three jobs and still have to use foodbanks, if you think the guy running the country doesn't have any duty to put an end to that then we are all going to hell in a handcart!!!

McDonald’s has offered one million free meals for families, after Marcus Rashford called for the most vulnerable youngsters to be fed over half-term.

The fast food giant has joined the Manchester United and England striker’s campaign and will provide funding to FareShare so food can be distributed to households most in need. Rashford has pleaded with the government to offer free meals to school over the holidays through to next Easter, but MPs voted down the motion.

However, pubs and cafes up and down the country have stepped in to plug the gap by encouraging families to get in touch to offer meals during the October half-term.

The last Labour government from 1997 to 2010 presided over an intake of over 4 million legal migrants . Most of these were family units not single men.
It’s probably reasonable to add, over the same period, half a million illegal migrants.
This is the reason why all public services and housing came under, and still do, such tremendous pressure.
In part it was due to Gordon Brown trying to create a client state that would favour Labour in the polling booth. To further this aim he encouraged an increase in the size of the public sector payroll of 850, 000 from 1999 onwards. Many, if not most, of these were victims of the austerity that followed later.

jathbee - what is wrong with your argument is that 99.9% of immigrants that come to the UK do not arrive on boats. They come from Europe so they don't need to throw their passports away and the largest arrival of immigrants from outside the EU is Pakistan. It is a very complex topic and not as easy as Nigel Farage makes it. By your tone I believe what you are worried about are black and Arab immigrants. These immigrants are usually the more educated and wealthier members of their families and the problem with that is the brain drain that they cause in the countries futures they are leaving . Now I do believe there is a serious conversation to be had about the laws for family reunification in the UK

I also think you should read this and it's not pro Labor

We have been inspired by so many small business standing with Rashford and we would like to do our part and help those that need it during this difficult time. No child should go hungry!

Peter Israel

It’s always worth double checking newspaper figures with the official statistics.
The UK population has taken on a dramatic increase in the last few years which will take years to cope with in terms of housing and public services.
Starting with Mrs Thatcher’s government in 1979 the UK population was 56.2 million. At the start of Tony Blair’s government in 1997 it had risen to 58.2 million. At the end of Gordon Brown’s tenure it had risen to 62.5 million.
During the Blair/Brown government there were two significant law changes relating to immigration.
The UK adopted the EU human rights legislation with the final arbiter being the EU court of justice.
Several acts of Parliament were passed (from memory 80 odd in total) that changed the status of immigrants. From then on immigrants were to be legally considered to have the right to be in the UK.
In this current year the UK population has risen to 67.9 million which represents an increase from 1997 of 9.7 million or 17%. That’s equivalent to 3.5 times the population of Greater Manchester which has 1.2 million households.
One final note on this matter. Currently 30% of live births in England and Wales are to a foreign born parent/parents.
For comparison with our three largest EU neighbours, the population increases from 1997 to 2020.
Germany up 2% from 82 to 83.8 million.
France up 12.2% from 59.7 to 67 million.
Italy up 1% from 56.9 to 60.5 million.

I disagree, it is because Wigan has already been given several tranches of money, to help Wigan residents get through the Covid-19 pandemic, because of the loss of income, particularly now that Wigan has gone into Tier 3 and the loss of employment income that will cause on top of the loss of income previous measures have caused.
