amonia
Does anyone know where you can buy Ammonia? Looked everywhere. I only need a small amount, about 300ml, to make some cleaning fluid to clean a printer head.

I need something to clean the heads which involves pumping fluid through the tubes which feed the print heads

That's O.K. for EPSON printers but mine is a BROTHER. You can buy kits but the quantity of fluid is minimal i.e. 30ml. Ive bought a syringe and a small i.d. tube, and I can make my own cleaning fluid There are a couple of formulas, one of them is by mixing Ammonia with I.P.A. I have the I.P.A but not the Ammonia<g> Another is using distilled water but like Ammonia, is difficult to find and to buy in small quantities.

Water from a dehumidifier is classed as distilled, and it's free.

The chap who used to have the ink cartridge shop on Worsley Mesnes precinct, showed me how to clean the cartridge print heads, the reason being I wanted him to get me some new cartridges for my canon printer, and he wanted to refill my old ones instead, and I hadn't used the printer for months, so the heads were completely dried out, so I took the old cartridges in to him, and all he did was wrap some kitchen roll around his finger, and he manipulated the cartridge head into the kitchen roll, not wiping it, so much as it was a half wipe, half push, he was being very careful not to damage the printer heads, and after a few seconds a very small spot of dried gunge appeared on the kitchen roll, so he moved along to a clean part of the kitchen roll and carried on, ans then a drop of ink appeared, and he kept the printer head in the ink drop, and after half a minute ink was literally oozing through the printer head and soaking into the kitchen roll, the kitchen roll was drawing the ink through the printer head, and when he was happy that the printer heads were clean he refilled the cartridges, and they were as good as new, the method seemed to make sure you moved the kitchen roll around the printer head, which allowed the ink to dissolve and clean the old dried on ink .....
