Super Saturday

Started by: WN1 Standisher (591)

As the big day looms, how many of you out there will be banging on the door for that first pint or G&T ? Personally I won't be going near just yet, I'll wait to let the dust settle, watch for the spike in cases and see how many arrests are made. On the subject of spikes, I was chatting to my mate Mark Miwirdz, who predicted that the 3rd spike will be robberies and break ins. As we all pile into the pubs and restaurants, the scallies will be filling their boots robbing our properties. The leisure industry won't be the only business restarting.

It's my birthday on the 4th. No pubs for me, I prefer to sit in my flat having a few glasses of Brandy. Since the lockdown, I have got used to being alone and am enjoying it.

We will NOT change our current routine, it seems silly to ease off our very isolated existence.
We stay in the house all morning and clean/do jobs/ garden.
A spot of lunch, then an afternoon walk either from the front door local, or up Horwich / Rivington, we give other walkers a wide berth.
Back home and pull up the drawbridge.
I sometime have a little evening walk for about 20 or 25 minutes, again staying clear of folk.
No pubs, no restaurants, no public spaces.
We shop at Horwich Tesco for about 40 minutes once a week, they have a very strict robust isolation system in place, so you feel safe, and I wear a 'proper’ face mask.

Not been to a pub for a long time and that is not about to change any time soon.
From what I can gather there isn't going to be much pleasure in it anyway. And I will definitely give the Fish a wide berth. ????

Apparently A&E departments in hospitals are preparing for their worst night since New Years Eve when the pubs re open. As if they've not had enough to do.

I noticed yesterday that a popular pub had on a chalkboard outside the message

"Open July 4th
Bookings only
Call 01*****
"

It reminded me of when of over 20yrs ago now, when the millennium New Year's Eve was approaching, and the pubs and clubs were talking about charging extortionate amounts for admission, for the end of the century, beginning of the new century New Year's Eve functions etc

And what happened ?

The clubs and pubs over hyped it, and the reality hardly anyone went out that night, folk stopped in and had their own new year eve parties instead, and told the greedy clubs and pubs to stuff it ....

And I have a feeling this Saturday is going to be the same, folk don't want to risk going out and catching the virus, never mind having to book to go in their local pub, so I bet it ends up being a quiet Saturday in the pubs and bars

Jarvo we all know you are billy no mates When I turn out I am normaly in a group of between 7-10 people so do your maths and with social distance room you would be shouting (not allowed)to have a conversation with all the group. Not worth the hassle thats why most people will stop at home. You might enjoy queueing to get into a pub then queueing to get served (is it card only?)and do you then queue for the toilet?

I am just getting me head around the topic I am going to put on to cheer up Jarvo

I don't think that many folk are going to go through all the precautions and restrictions, that they will be required to undertake in order to have a drink in a pub, but to stop a second wave of the virus, those precautions will be necessary.

And folk who are over 60 or folk who have a weakened immune system, should avoid the pub until these restrictions are removed ....

just seen on the news in Hammersmith London, people are forming a queue to get in the pub which is opening at 6 am in the morning,

WTF is wrong with people ?, rioting, beach littering, kneeling on one knee, stock piling and panic buying, blocking the roads for a Maceffindonalds burger and ripping statues down,

Prices are already going up to cover the lost trade during lockdown and the extra social distancing measures that have been put in place

Replied: 4th Jul 2020 at 11:58

It's understandable PeterP.

If we want these places open we need to support them and absorb the increases.

Unfortunately I fear that alot of pubs will go to the wall if they can't make up the losses. I should imagine they are hoping for a bumper Christmas to keep them going but I can't see it somehow.

I agree fully with you 0years, pubs have been struggling for years, they will not be able to sustain social distancing and increased costs, many will close their doors forever

I asked one in Standish can you fit me in today, she said not until a week on Tuesday.

No Frank there was nothing kinky about her.

But she did say, that she enjoys my videos and it was a shame that some silly fake of a man complained about the lovely one showing the bright yellow coloured rape and butterflies in that Billinge field, she said it was a tonic for her and those that cant get out into the countryside during these troubled times.
