State spending on housing.

Fifty years ago 95 per cent of state spending on housing went towards building homes, and only 5 per cent on benefits, the Chartered Institute of Housing reports. By 2022 this ratio had flipped so that 88 per cent of the housing bill was spent on benefits and only 12 per cent on building homes.

Could that reflect the fact that social housing has been privatised and are mostly built by housing associations but the rents are still paid by the government by way of housing benefit?

50 years ago Council Housing rents were dirt cheap, and in 1982 a one bedroomed flat in Douglas House cost £7.62 a week, and that included a charge for rates, no water bill in those days, and I think that council rents were subsidised, towards the end of the 1980s things began to change, council/social, because by then council house building had been banned, and only not for profit Housing Associations could build new social housing, and the Housing Association social housing rents were nearly 50% more than council housing rents, and in the late 1980s the rent rebate system started to be less generous, in the early 1990s the government wanted parity between Council Housing rents and Housing Association social housing rents, so council rents started going up to match the Housing Association rents, and in the early 2000s the government wanted parity between council/social housing rents and rents in the private rented sector, the mass immigration into the UK from the EU from 2004 onwards, fueled a massive demand for private rented accommodation, and pushed up the price of rents too, so that is why the housing benefits bill is so high.
Government actions have pushed up the price of rents, and now 'literaly' the government are having to pay the price for that.

I went by your house today, to my mate's who lives in the (relatively) new houses opposite the Honeysuckle.
He mentioned those lads racing round the new road, saying they can hear them almost every night.
He said, "the police know they race round there at night so, what they do is, they put a copper there with a speed camera all afternoon and they catch several drivers who may be doing 35 in the 30, or 45 in the 40. Then they pat themselves on the back"!

They should fit average speed cameras along the road and set then just above the speed limit this will slow the boy racers down

It's supposed to be 20 mph on our estate, but they do speeds of over 40 mph up and down our street and like everywhere else they are not young boy racers.

Show some respect, because she is the countries Deputy Prime Minister, if Kier Starmer became 'incapacitated' or even 'discomknockerated' she would be in charge of things
