Wigan Hospice

Started by: Big Harold (184)

Work is currently underway to refurbish the unit, which sits between Marks & Spencer Food and Smyth’s Toys, to prepare it for opening. At the end of August.
They are now looking for volunteers to help run the store.

It is ages since Argos at Robin Park closed and moved into Sainsburys at Marus Bridge, so I wonder why as no other business has taken over the old Argos unit ?
Only thing I can think of is that it is too large, and the rent will be too much, has will the business rates, and there will be a hefty service charge bill too.

Are you thinking of the Argos which was in The Galleries in Wigan, because that was upstairs.

Next on Robin Park pay over £154,000 a year business rates alone. I don't know how they make it pay, half the stuff they sell gets returned, a lot is worn once then returned!

Charitable organisations can get 80% relief from business rates. This can be topped up at the discretion of the local authority.

Charity shops Vapes and Barbers and an odd Coffee shop thrown in
Don’t get me wrong Charity shops provide a good service but it clearly shows the internet has taken over

Roylew a lot of the items in a lot of the charity shops(not all shops) are overpriced and if you offer them a lower price than the marked up price most times they will not sell it to you The best charity shop I have visited and donated to is the Diamond Community centre just out of Ashton town centre

We visit the Diamond Community most Mondays to drop off our older clothes and also usually buy some new ones from them. Mondays are 50p days other days things might be as much as £1:00.
