to keep the metaphors coming,

Who tiled your bathroom, Stevie Wonder ?

I'd knock thee down faster than a small whisky

easier to catch than a fish in a barrel

add your own....

Stevie Wonder isn't a metaphor, Tom. The others are.

Something with "as a" in it, or "like a", or "than a":

Daft "as a" brush!
Stinks "like an" owd pow cat!
Dafter "than a" Blackpool donkey!

It's something that compares two words that aren't related to each other.

Faster than a rat up a drainpipe.
Up the creek without a paddle.
Smart as a whip.
Straight as a die.

Don't worry about it, Jathbee. Just after I posted my comment, the site went down, and your post was timed at the same as mine, so it must have played silly beggars with your post. That regularly happens to me, but never so many times.

Good examples there though.

Yes, several times, but not for the same reason. I think I've fathomed out what was going wrong - at least I hope I have - 'cos I got sick and weary of it.

Here's one Tom, "Her'd lie under a faw o'dirt"!

And before anybody starts, it's not a reference to anybody in particular!

Mollie, I've only heard it when I worked at the pit, the mugs in the canteen were pretty hefty, hence the metaphor.

They all have to come from somewhere. Makes you think where the rest originated.
