Ours is anything but normal, We get no mail at all for days then, A shed load comes through the letter box,, I spoke to the postman and he says,
" we are short staffed and its hard to attract new posties because , The rounds have expanded , What was an average 12 miles a day is now, 16 miles a day for the same pay ",Many have left

We get loads of junk-mail too. So, what I do is, I post it all back into the post-box at the end of our road.
If everybody did that, they'd soon get the message.
It's not as if people actually like getting rubbish posted through their letter-box.

Well from what Tom says, and apart from PeterP and Tonker, we must all have the same postman, because I also wait for days on end for the post to come now

As we speak, they've just parked their Royal Mail van across the road and are taking stuff out of it. Two of them. This is their second visit today, as I've already seen today's mail.

Just got back and still no mail.

Perhaps its time that the postal delivery service was opened up to competition like the parcel delivery service or the government took it back into public ownership as it is obvious that that present private company that is running it are not fit for purpose!

O.C., it's only the ownership that's changed. The business would run just the same regardless of who owns it. That's because the owner doesn't run it. They never do.

It's a bit like the government. It's still the same management team, regardless of which political party represent the people.

But he is part of IDS, so if IDS and Jan Bilek do not own Royal Mail, who does?

IDS is owned by a group, which is owned by several shareholders.
But, it's irrelevant who owns it. Those who own it won't run it.

But that is not what I asked about the possible future running of Royal Mail.

Should the postal delivery service be opened up to competition like the parcel delivery service or brought back into public ownership by the government.

All you have to do is give an opinion to a simple question instead of trying to make out that you know everything about anything which some on here seem to enjoy in some kind of fan club!

Owd Codpiece, it shouldn't be too difficult to understand. Whoever "owns" the Royal Mail, the business will still be the same. Unless, which is a ridiculous suggestion to say the least, whoever buys it puts an immediate ban on all e-mails.
That's because nowhere near as many people, or organisations, use the traditional postal service anymore.
But, I was trying to tell you that whoever owns the royal Mail, they won't 'run' it. And I also said, the UK Government runs the UK, not the political representatives of the people. Which is quite true.

eg: If I had a car which kept breaking down, cost a fortune in maintenence, used loads of fuel and oil and wore tyres out because the bodyshell was twisted - and I sold it to you - the car would still break down, cost a fortune in maintenence, use loads of fuel and oil and wear tyres out because the bodyshell is twisted. The change of ownership would be just that. A change of ownership.
Get it?

Still no delivery of mail to our house, but that may due to where we live, it is not one of the more well off districts of Wigan!

I can't really say I've noticed about a lack of mail, mainly because I never get much of it. Just statements from my bank, water authority, Virgin Media, and they're only once a month. I occasionally get an "invitation" from the NHS to have jabs, which go straight into the bin, and maybe a bit of junk mail once a week.

It is true that emailing is taking over from postal deliveries in the workplace. We rarely send letters by post these days, except for a couple of times a month when reminders go out.

Snail-mail is becoming a thing of the past, most especially with the high cost of a single stamp these days.

PeterP.
Not sure how much truth there is in this but I was told that they are prioritising letters from the NHS. Could be something in it, as the only mail I've had for over a week is two letters from the NHS.

Acoording to a relative of mine who works for Royal Mail, he has told me that because of the terrible shortage of staff, they have for a while been giving priority to parcel deliveries because of the competition from other parcel delivery companies.

Cut throat industry apparentlly!
