Unlimited Free Bus Travel in August

Started by: mortarmillbill (961)

Transport for Greater Manchester are trialling unlimited free travel for pensioners and disabled pass holders during August. It means that you can now catch a bus before 9.30am and after midnight without charge.
It only applies to Bee Network buses.

I don't think there will be many pensioners using the Free bus after midnight

I very much doubt it too, admin. At least my after midnight days are well and truly over.
Although the catching a bus before 9.30am is much better, at least for me it is. It will also stop the drivers telling us oldies that we are twirlys.
Translation.... Too early.

jathbee …. That made me laugh. I understood what the conductor was meaning but to see it written down it just looked so comical. True Wiganees.

They are only doing it because the kids are on holiday, which begs the question, do the government pay an amount to the bus companies for each journey a bus pass holder makes ?

APLS yes every time a bus pass is used the bus company can claim for that journey They claim off the local authority who in turn try to get this money off the government They estimate it costs nearly a billion pounds to run the scheme and there is a shortfall of over 400 million from the government to some local authorities.

True Wiganees indeed Ann. I think the word spoken in Wiganees might just disappear soon, if this new concession stays.
