saving water
Even though we have not yet got a hosepipe ban I try to save water.I wash the dishes twice a day and was wasting cold water until the water got hot.Now I use a old paint tub and save the cold water.Has soon as the water gets hot then I put the washing up bowl back into the sink and run enough water to do the dishes including rinsing the cup/glass.I tip the cold water into a water butt in the garden I am saving water and cutting down on my water bill

Makes a lot of sense, Peter. Water is the earth's most valuable commodity and it's almost criminal to waste it. However, (and I'll probably get five black marks for this) I don't believe in wasting water on gardens and for hosing down cars from taps at any time but, to water gardens with recycled water or rain water is more acceptable as it can't be used to drink.
Just try to imagine what it would be like if, say, just us in the North West had literally no more water.
1. Fire Brigade would come to a standstill and fires would be widely spread and lives lost
2.
3.
4.
Fill in the blanks.

I collect water in 5 X 40 gallon barrels from rainwater off my shed/garage/greenhouse rooves and, as yet never run dry, I water my plants from them with watering cans or as we gardeners called then, 'Deggin' cons' , I shower rather that bathe and I do as the Water board recommend , Wee whilst showering to save flushing the toilet,

We've been saving on the use of our tap water by drinking Perrier water, it's so refreshing served over ice and a slice of lemon.

Washing machines use an awful lot of water. I do have quite a lot of clothes and undies, so I wait until I have enough of whites, coloureds, dark clothes etc to fill the washing machine. I never wash just a few clothes at a time. Saves on electricity too.
Yorkshire has just announced a hosepipe banned.
Forgot to add that I also have a water filter jug, which filters 2 liters of drinking water, which I put into the fridge as I hate luke warm, tap water, which tastes of chlorine. I never buy bottled water. So no plastic build up either.

Mine doesn't, as I tell her to do a lot in the sink by hand

I'll try that kath. I always use fairy but never tried it with cold water. Does it actually work on greasy pots and pans?

I normally turn the hot tap on and let the water run down the plug hole until the water gets hot.I know at this time I am not using any less water from the tap and transferring the cold water into a water butt to fill the butts while there has been no rain.I measured the cold water in the tub and am probably normally wasting about 9-10 litres of water a day which is about a tenth of my daily water usage which just goes down the drain
