Wigan poor
They have been fairly poor in their last 3 games or so….they don’t like travelling into the bowels of Yorkshireand they have to go to Castleford next week…can’t win ‘em all

One man rugby – straight down the middle every time –clueless in attack - Is Harry Smith the worst Wigan half-back since ‘Jinkin’ Jimmy Fairhurst?

No, he is far better!
But why single out one when others are playing bad and time Farrell considered retiring.

A bit of atmoshere at home games like you see at other grounds might help the confidence of the squad to play better on their travels to the other side of the pennines
Playing at the Brick unless it is against Saints is like being in attendance at a mortuary!

Harry Smith is still a brilliant player…all players go through bad patches…just too many at the moment..Mikey Lewis is a brilliant player with a bad attitude..let’s see what HKR do when he gets injured (and he will)….Time for Farrell to move sideways I’m afraid and not one of Matt Peets best interviews…could be another upset at Castleford too…

I agree with what you have said about Smith, Lewis and Farrell, but surely we are not playing that bad to lose against Castleford?
As for Peet, the question is "Have other club's cotton on to his tactic's and game plans" which might be part of the problem?

Should beat Castleford really but too many away games on the trot starts to get through…can’t understand the tactics really….one week we seem to throw the ball around with gay abandon, then the week after go with Wanes old tactics and just play down the middle

Wigvet you mentioned Fairhurst being bad What was the name of that fullback Maurice Bamford brought from Halifax when he came? he was terrible I think his name was Jimmy as well.

Jimmy Birts Peter The worst player I ever saw in a Wigan shirt,. He was signed to take the place of Fairbairn when he joined HKR. He didn't last long. Colin Whitfield signed soon after.

He was called Jimmy Birts who came along with centre Steve Nicholson and second row forward Mick Scott.
Only Mick Scott was a real success and played on at Wigan after Maurice Bamford was sacked.
After he retired from playing Mick Scott became a youth team coach at the Siddal amateur club and from what I understand recomended some young players to Wigan, one of which was Morgan Smithies!

Steve Nicholson was a classy centre but played in an awful team

The team which you have mention was just after the time that the gang of four took over the ownership of the club and just started to rebuild the team which then was no worse than the teams of the late seventies under the previous board of ten led by Sumner Baxendale and Harry Gostellow which prompted the gang of four to take over the club.

Another poor performance by Wigan with again a late win in the dying minutes of the game and many Castleford and neutral supporters saying they were were robbed as a result of a terrible decision of the video referee.
Is it the coaching or just a case of players being out of form and injuries ?
Whatever the reason, we are now living in the shadow of Hull KR, coached by a ex Wigan player with ex. Wigan cast off's as members of their squad.

Is Christian Wade just a publicity stunt or will he ever play a 1st team game
Replied: 29th Jun 2025 at 11:23
The Phoenix
It does make one wonder when in the days of signing the many players from what was then a amateur Union game, they went straight into a first team selction.
In the case of Wade, how many of we supporters understood at the time of his signing while he was still playing for Gloucester, and barring any injury, it would be on completion of the Union season, an automatic replacement in place of the injured Miski?
