Bad do at Marus Bridge

a collision at the traffic lights led to major queues, All the way from Ashton and tailbacks for cars getting off the M6 at landgate, Police ambulance and fire at the scene this afternoon,
We never had this when the island was there,

Correct, the roundabout should have been retained with rotating traffic lights like those at the Central Park Way/Greenhough Street junction.

But we live in Wigan!

I often catch the bus from marus bridge and watch the motorists as a past time while waiting for the bus, It seems to be a ' dare devil' amongst the drivers to see, how many can get through the lights after its turned Red,
and on the other hand, drivers on a green light think, " this is my road" and are booting it, Its a recipe for disaster,

its speaks volumes to me that a junction being there as far as I can remember and having un unblotted safety history got replaced by, state of the art robot controlled traffic lights that have produced a high level of accidents with, overturned cars and carnage, A overturned car does not happen at low speed impacts and accidents of that nature are due to careless driving, speeding and recklessness, Yes Slaps, That island removal was an act of stupidity by high paid road engineers who should know better and should be held accountable, Its probably the only place in the World where a 'U' turner has the right of way over a vehicle making a left hand turn,

If only it was yooo in charge of Wigan road planning, Wigan's emergency services would have an easier life and the hospital would not be so busy,

practically living on that junction the main cause of accidents is the right turn into highfield grange rd from the wigan direction.the problem being the indicator light to turn comes on and people obviously think its safe to cross over without oncoming wigan bound traffic being stopped at the light.the other problem is the filter lane from bryn end into highfield grange filtering right from goose green end think its clear and dont notice drivers swinging left form the bryn end until its too late.speed is also a factor as drivers coming down from the motorway are sometimes speeding through very quickly to miss the light turning red.red light running at that junction is very often done without hesitation.im not sure that the old roundabout could handle that amount of traffic safely these days.
