17569 steps today

Started by: tomplum (14451)

That is what my , health app has recorded for today, I went to visit a mate of mine who is in hospital in Wigan and, because it was a nice day, I walked there and I walked it back as well so, I'd estimate that from My house to Wigan Infirmary is 3 miles and another 3 miles back therefore,
17569 steps is 6 miles or there abouts,
My question to the house is, how long is a 'step' ?

Good for you Tom. That's a good vascular exercise. It depends on how long your legs are though to make up a step. Why don't you measure yours?

That's the thing Mollie, I'm a shuffler rather than a strider so. That app I'm guessing is working off GPS and using an average persons step length, I'm hoping Slaps can confirm this

Well measure each shuffle you make then. Being only 5ft tall, I take shorter steps than my 6ft brother, who has to walk more slowly to stay with me, otherwise he'd cover three times the area that I could.

The terrain also has to figure in the equation because, if its smooth, I can shimmy along better than on cobbles where I tend to slither from side to side, I'm not much taller than you Mollie, I tower in at 5-6 with a ' stumpy' torso and short legs which, buying off the peg trousers often led to remarks from others, " are those long shorts or short longs" , But they work ok so, I can't complain,,

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Tom. The important thing is you walked all that way from Ashton which, I would estimate to be more than 3 miles, as it's that far from where I live to Beech Hill, and the Hospital is further by roughly another mile, but I'm not too good at guessing distances.

Which route did you take? Did you walk into Wigan and up Wigan Lane?

Mollie I live in Poolstock Lane so. I walked Down Poolstock lane into Wigan and up wigan Lane and, It won't be more than 3 miles but, I could be proved wrong,

I don't know that area Tom so you could well be right. Why not cycle that way sometime if you have a mileometre wotsit on your bike?

Mind you, cycling through Wigan with all the traffic could prove a bit frikkenin.

With the reports that here might be a summer of discontent by the unions over the policies of the present goverment, the summer might not be as glorious as you say!
