Hiya Tom. There were 39 views before you posted so I was giving up hope.

I'm not into biblical stuff, but wasn't Good Friday named to commemorate JC being crucified? Summat like that anyway.

Mayhap he did, and mayhap he didn't. We only have to believe in stories that were told over 2000 years ago.

So what are your plans for this weekend, if any?

I've enjoyed this morning in me garden, planting, weeding and general potting about, Its relaxation on the move, although the body is moving its only at idling speed, unless like Peter you are digging a long and firmly rooted tree stump that doesn't want to leave its home,

Tom I am expecting the roots to go down a good way so like the snail slow and steady getting it out .I have put two sheets down to pile the soil on and lifted a couple of flags for easier digging. The root is up against the dividing wall and cannot been seen because of the raised bed I have near it. Like you just pottering about today and looking at the seedling I am growing in the greenhouse .

I've got six quite big stumps that need removing. Like yours, Peter, they are against a wall and I know that if I use a machine to get them out it'll damage the wall, which will mean rebuilding it. So it's going to be digging and cutting for them all. Hard work either way!

LOL! I don't think the Police, Fire Brigade and Council would be too pleased if Peter blew up his old pear tree root, especially on a housing estate.

Peter, I'm glad it's been nice enough for you to get out in your garden today, but instead of trying to uproot that old pear tree, can you not just saw off what's left above ground?

I feel for you because, many years ago, when I was around 35, I started to dig out blackberry bushes which mum hadn't been able to attend to before we moved back in. The roots of those pesky plants were so stubborn and I must have dug down at least 18" and still the end wasn't in sight. My neighbour asked if I was trying to dig down to Australia to save the cost of a flight! It wasn't just one though, there were several but, after many back-breaking hours and days, I finally managed to get rid, once and for all.

here's another option Peter, I can't personally recommend it cos, I've never used it but, If it works,

it'll save a lot of back pain

Another option is to drive copper nails into the stump and leave it to rot I will persevere with it for a few more days don't like being beaten

Hands up, who still gets an Easter Egg?

It should be realised that there are now very few Easter Eggs on sale, which have the word 'Easter' written on them, they just call them 'Eggs' now, so as not to upset the ethnic minorities in this country.

On the other hand why are the ethnic minority festivals, now widely advertised in this country, for instance 'Ramadan' and 'Diwali', but the Christian festivals are not widely advertised, and indeed the Christian words such as Easter and Christmas seem to be avoided being used now, so as not to upset none Christian faiths and cultures.

So what the hell is going on in this country now ?

Or am I just being racist

I think the Sant Jordi (St.George) Medieval Festas are being cancelled over in Spain, due to the Pope deeeein'. The government have put a three day mourning period in place for 22nd, 23rd and 24th April, this will have a direct effect on a lot of festivities.
They'll not be too happy about it!
