Getting items
I have noticed over the last 6 months B&Q Have stopped both picking up items and click &collect items and they have home delivery ONLY Most items through their sister company Screwfix you can still walk into the store or click &collect items yet their shops are tiny compered to B&Q stores. If you have no choice but home delivery then you might has well use Amazon or E-bay, I like looking at an item before I buy plus don't like being tied to a delivery slot

B&Q are a rip-off. Don't go there!

My lawnmower gave up on me so I looked on line for a replacement and again B&Q were only doing deliveries I went to Argos and purchased one. B&Q must be losing a lot of customers not every one works from home or wants to sit around for deliveries

We went to the B & Q store in Wigan look at an electric stove which was shown on their website, but on visiting the store to view the stove, it was not on display. When I asked an assistant about why it was not on display, we were informed that we could only order it on the B & Q website for home delivery and when asked if she could order it for us it in the store, we were told that no orders could be made at the store for items not on display for home delivery as B & Q were now operating like Amazon on certain products.
Needless to say, we did not go home and order it on the B & Q website, but obtained the stove at a different store in the Wigan area which was a bit futher away, but where on arrival, the stove was on display.
Like Peter P says, B & Q must be losing a lot of custom by operating in this way!

Like Tonker says, B&Q are expensive. I very rarely shop there.
Although I do disagree with the statement that they are doing "home delivery only"
We need a new oven and I have been comparing prices on line and I priced one up on the B&Q website and it stated that it could be collected in as little as 15 minutes if I purchased it?
Granted, it wasn't the Wigan store, though.

Why do yoo want to go and look at something like a cooker in a store, when you can look at pictures of it on a website like Argos ?

Wrong type of stove in our case and do you always buy things of value without seeing it?

These days I suppose the answer to that is going to be 'Yes', I mean at one time Curry's had a really good selection of kitchen appliances on display, so I would go and look at an appliance in Curry's and then see if I could get it at a better price elsewhere or online, so I think you should do both, look in store if you can do, but don't be afraid of ordering it online, but choose one of the big retailers like Argos, Curry's etc

The stove we were buying is not a kitchen appliance!

Cheshirecat I have just done a random sample of items on line including ovens and on a page of 24-27 items 4 were available in store or at selected stores all the rest of the items( including door handles )were delivery only The store at Wigan is a large store and would easily fit all items which are on line. Less than half a mile down the road is B&Q's sister company Screwfix which you could fit in one aisle of B&Q and most of the time carry stock

You cannot really go and buy a cooker from a store and put it in the boot and take it home can you ?

Begs the question with all the online shopping now, are B & Q going to convert their large stores like Wigan, Bamber Bridge etc into area warehouses where you order online like Amazon for it to be delivered?
But retained the trade counter for tradesmen with a membership card?

No proper "tradesmen" are going to use B&Q (unless it's an emergency, when everywhere else is shut!)
Owd 'Un, B&Q operate on a 'distributor' basis, not as true retail outlets.

When was the last time you went to a B & Q as when I have gone to the Wigan store, I have seen more tradesmen than ordinary customers.

They wust be 'Wigan' tradesmen then. you know, the ones who don't know their arses from their elbows?
Because, B&Q is twice the price of anywhere else and only stock DiY grade stuff.
And, for that reason, I don't often visit B&Q.
That said, I do frequent other Kingfisher Group outlets, like Screwfix (occasionally) and Brico Depot.
