My son knows a person in the planning dept of Wigan and, he told him the hold up was with the plans for making a safe road junction at Wigan Road/Mere Rd/ Old road, So they must have formulated plans now,,

Tom your right both very busy junction at the best of times. When I lived on Whitledge Green I used to come out onto the "T" junction at the front of Bryn LC. Had a few near misses at the cross road more so with buses turning right off Wigan Road onto Old Road. Even has far back as 1969 I witnessed a bad accident were two people died following an accident at the cross roads You do not forget things like that easily.

Peter the Three Sisters is a recreation/warehouse area not a retail site. There is only one small shopping centre in Ashton around the Greenway centre (google it).

They have been on about opening a supermarket on that site for about five years now, Ashton town centre is awful for traffic, and what it needs is a nice new A58 bypass road

Some where along the line my missus is related to the Gorner's on her dad's side. Three of the Gorner's from Yorkshire attended our wedding in 1975

"How many more shopping centers are needed in ashton"

I think we need a new shopping centre to relive the pressure on Robin Park which is too busy now, I have said before, put a new shopping centre on a development accessed from the top island at Marus Bridge going over and linking to that new warehouse development they are building off Bolton Road at Stubshaw Cross, and that Heron Foods and One Stop shops are now open on Worsley Mesnes

When M6 first opened, there seemed to be some expectation that the (Juncton 25) link road would be extended east to provide a link from A49 Park Lane to A58 somewhere thereabouts. I do not know if it was ever part of any plan, or just conjecture.

Ena

It was part of the Lancashire County Council 3 sisters reclamation project. On the eastern side it emerged onto the A58 at the Rams Head pub.
On the western side it emerged onto the A49 near to the M6 link road at Landgate. It was scrapped when Wigan Council assumed responsibility for the project following the 1974 local government reorganisation legislation.

Gaffer, my great aunt was a Lancashire County Alderman and she had a photo of her, lady Pilk., and the queen at the 3 Sisters, in the early 70's. So, it must've been a long standing project. I was invited to take part in the very first race meeting at the 3 Sisters, in 1979.

Horace Gorner used to live near me, I think he moved to the Lakes somewhere?

Was your cousin Frances Bentlegs? It's not long since I saw Graham outside the bungalow, that was built for his dad Horace, in Nicol Road.
Graham was a director at Wigan Athletic in the days when Arthur Horrocks was chairman.

Bentlegs refers to Ralph’s wife, who lives on DGR.
She had a twin sister who also married a Gorner, they lived on Wigan Road before moving away
Btw Graham does indeed still live in his dads house
