i went to mesnes between 75 and 78 i think... gettin old now findin it hard to add up my school years...in fact only last week i bumped into an old mate i hadnt seen since the day we left mesnes, but i recognised him straight away tony "dixie" dean... i must say im not too bad rememberin faces ..

I'm trying to remember the girl who used to catch it with us . . . I remember a Linda Whalley? but was there a Hazel? or Jean? God knows . . . very many senior moments here! Good to know you're still about !

I went to the Deanery in the 1970's and we hated you at Mesnes High

We used to throw things over the fence at you, do you remember the snowball fights

And what about when you all went on strike and it ended up in the papers

Jemmy PLatt went to Mesnes, he was ok. there were some monkeys went there though...Half of them could barely speak.

i was one of the instigators of the strike lol we went on strike because andrew cunningham had been suspended for smoking so we went to the evening post to tell our story and i and a couple of others sorry forget who now had our photo taken, the powers that be at school did not take things too lightly though and we got detention when we got back!!! those were the days though;-) god how i miss them.

english teacher, yates and wiles the new headmaster who used to wear matching capes used to look like batman and robin. Do rember the strikes, and the snowball fights

kaz, mrs simpson taught english and english literature. she was the teacher that got me through my o level to a grade 1 cracking lady..
who remembers that mr wilds was allus called owd shiny pants cos the seat of his pants allus shone like the bloody sun.

My friend was in Mr reeves maths set. yep rember Mr Johnson wore glasses i think, rember Mrs wardle sewing, i think mrs smith typing and office practice, rember smoking behind boys games room, sneaking in 4 dinner when only had butties and it was freezing outside, and wacking it in mesnes park

Mr Right was my R.E. Teacher and I know he taught there for a long time because he taught my sister too, Mr Walsh was one of my form teachers as well as being a maths teacher, Mrs Bradley was head of our year and a music teacher, Mr Mallett was a woodowrk teacher, I can't think of anymore

I know the headteacher, he was Mr Wiles and still is lol.He was my head teacher between 1978 ish and 1981 ish. Believe it or not he is now my nephews grandad. What a small world. I was petrified of him at school and what a difference now he's a really nice guy lol Just sooooooooo scary when i was in high school lol.

The name Jemmy Platt rings a bell. My brother, 'Gus' Gregory went to Mesnes and used to hang around with a Jemmy Platt for a while, both looking like Bowie wannabees. I remember Jemmy used to have a brill collection of Bird's eggs.

I went 2 mesnes high... 1975ish... left in 1979.. I remember some names wen i wus there.....Paul dainty, Mick dean, Dave pollitt, Tony bannister, John craig, Dave rasburn, Jimmy sharples, Paul musgrove.!!!...("Andy cunningham")... Used 2 knock about wi Andy mckenzie,and Dave honkins (BUT I ONLY REMEMBER THEM LAST 3 NAMES, WEN I WUS AT PEM MIDDLE SCHOOL) I du remember Andrew saxon and Gus gregory.... but cant put a face to their names(SORRY LADS)......Hope them names brought a few memories back....lol....Mr sharrock wus a teacher wen i wus there. As anyone got any old school photos they can post on wigan world.. It wud b great to c them... mesnes high school only pls lol....Thanx.

Does anybody know when Wigan Grammar school became Mesnes High school and or did it turn into a comprehensive school when it changed names or was it a comprehensive school in the last few years of it being called Wigan Grammar school

It changed from Wigan Grammar to Mesnes in Sept 1972 and changed to comprehensive at the same time ,went downhill from then on.

Thank you doodle, I went to the Deanery and started in Sept 1971, the Deanery opened in Sept 1970 and I reckon about 15 of the Deanery teachers had come from Wigan Grammar school and would have started in Sept 1970 I myself took the 11 plus and my year was the last one ever to take the 11 plus in Wigan and the last 11 year old secondary school intake, the middle schools started the year after in Sept 1972 and we were first years at the Deanery for 3 years

Yes sidecutter I was in their class, they used to torment me all the time andy charnock always used to make weird noises couldn't help himself for some reason almost always used to sit behind me.
