Wigan Genealogy

Looking for any information on relatives of my father who was born on December 7th, 1931 in Wigan. He was brought up by his grandfather, who was originally from Cardiff, in the 30s/40s, hardly saw his father who supposedly got killed at Arnhem in 1944. Joined the army first as a conscript in around 1950, later as a professional in 1956 and stayed on until 1968. He moved with us to Germany and later Holland looking for work. He died in 1990 and I haven't a clue regarding his family, so I have no knowledge of possible relatives living in England. Obviously trying to trace any relatives who remember him, and also trying to trace back ansestry.
