Misty Wigan
Looks like your up Parbold Hill Mick.
if it wasn't misty you would be able to see our house on this one,
Absolutely beautiful.
What is the chimney in the distance? It appears to be in use with smok!e coming out but it could be deceptive and be background mist. All the other mist is horizontal though, not upwards.
The smoking chimney gives it a Victorian feel - making it look like smog rather than mist.
Atmospheric photo - thanks Mick.
The chimney is at Wigan Infirmary, its were they burn all the medical rubbish and old worn out body parts
Now that is a really good photo Mick. Misty & mysterious.
This photo is similar to one put on a few years ago from a slightly different angle. I remember it well as I did a pencil drawing of it. ( I asked permission of course and gave it away.)
I put two comments on this photo earlier today and neither have appeared, which is disappointing.
Also happens to me Irene and sometimes they come on twice.
Brilliant picture Mick . Thank you for sharing .
Also happens to me Irene and sometimes they come on twice.
Another photo by Mick/Joan ????
Try again Irene I cant wait to see what this photo reminds you off.
Don’t despair Irene , It also happens to me ; Quite frequently in fact .
Although I do take a modicum of comfort in the knowledge that it’s merely a tinpot parochial site anyway …
Now this one may be published …or it may not …I’m guessing the latter , although I could hardly care less whichever .
And to prove my point , if the punctuation marks appear in the correct place , then I’ll show my bottom outside Halfords .
Syd Smith, they don't burn hospital medical waste and as you say worn out body parts at Wigan RAEI, it all gets taken away and incinerated as per government guidelines as it has been for some years. It was a coal fired boiler at one time, but it is now gas so what you are seeing is the normal plume of condensing CO2 and water vapour when it hits the cold atmosphere, the same as it does on a domestic gas boiler.
Strange how you can see that chimney but not Pagefield Mill chimney, which would be to the right?
If it weren’t for the fog , you’d almost be able to see my Anderson shelter on this one Mick.
The plume of smoke to the left of the hospital chimney could possibly be from my AGA I suppose ……either that or the chip pan , although I’m unable to recall the exact date that it caught fire for the umpteenth time .
I was only recently recommended a care home in Chorley that specialises in the care of dementia patients , although I’ve forgotten the name of the place for the minute .
Third time lucky??....Since you ask me to try again, Mick, the photo reminded me of the early 1960s when smoke issuing from factory chimneys was still a common sight....the chimney on the skyline of the photo brought that back; it also brought back another memory of the early sixties when a slight gritty haze seemed to hang over our town, even on the sunniest day, , and the smell of smoke and coal was ever-present.
'Some People' wouldn't recognise Wigan if it smacked 'em in t'gob.
Even in’t fog Bruce..
'tinpot parochial'
In the Outback , they spend weeks, in the burning heat, looking for gems..
