This is a good sign,
thank you Wigan Council and Boris Johnson.

Comment by: DTease on 28th October 2021 at 08:34

More money wasted on cycle lanes that nobody uses, meanwhile people can’t get to work because of the chaos caused by this great white elephant.
Well done Boris, the bumbling buffoon who only rides a bike when there’s a cameraman behind him to take a picture.

Comment by: irene roberts on 28th October 2021 at 09:12

The cycle lanes wouldn't be so bad if people would use them, but they prefer to ride on the pavement, and the speed at which they ride is ridiculous and give no warning of coming up behind you! If you suddenly decided to cross the road and made a move towards the pavement you would be knocked down and injured. The cyclists on the canal towpaths mostly give a warning with a bell or a polite "excuse me". but the pavement cyclists are a menace and give you fifty words for one if you so much as "tut" at them.

More metro speak . A walking network . Do they mean footpaths ?
£6 a hour to rent an e bike under this scheme . Don't know what they charge for boots .

Comment by: Veronica on 28th October 2021 at 09:13

I haven't been on a bike for years - mine lies in retirement in the shed. It's buses that have been taken off various routes that we need not roads leading to nowhere. All very well if you are fit and strong but what about the older and the less strong who are limited in their activities. Also we are not like the Dutch with flat land to ride bikes at any age! Up North is very hilly, unless it's not been noticed.

Comment by: joe bloggs on 28th October 2021 at 09:29

Empty cycle lanes for those who will pay no tax and mostly don't work, whilst tax payers and those trying to get to and from work sit around in cars spewing out climate changing gases. Very few want to get into Wigan these days just to get through it to somewhere else with a nice town centre with shops and without homeless people in every doorway

Teasy dont be selfish think of the future when your dead, we need to get our world sorted out now.

Comment by: freddie on 28th October 2021 at 10:05

Mick, just who is being selfish by supporting the provision of cycling routes, whilst depriving 99% of the population of the ability to travel around easily

Comment by: DTease on 28th October 2021 at 10:07

Mick, there may well come a time in YOUR life when you can no longer ride a bike even with the help of an electric motor, much less walk where you want to go.
How selfish will YOU be then Mick?

Comment by: Veronica on 28th October 2021 at 10:14

All very well to say think of others younger. THEY will grow older as well. Old age is not reserved for those already old! The nincompoops should realise that as well!
We don't ALL own a car for various reasons either!

Comment by: Maureen on 28th October 2021 at 11:28

Veronica,if we did have flat lands like Holland I would be on my bike tomorrow..i would love to get on it and enjoy the smells of he countryside, but where I live is hilly no matter which way you turn.

Comment by: TerryW on 28th October 2021 at 11:39

Mick as always been selfish, that's just one of many reasons he wasn't welcome on WW.

Comment by: Mick on 28th October 2021 at 12:14

I wonder when they were digging the canals and building the railways they had these kind of complaints from Wiganers
The roadworks and traffic disruption will only be here for a few months, the cycling lane will be here until they invent hovering welly's
They already have 3 wheeler electric bike for the old folk who have no balance.
Some areas of Wigan are as flat has a pancake no matter which way you turn once you come down from the hill, then you can peddle to
Liverpool or Manchester without seeing any hills at all.
Its only a matter of time, when you go to see the doctor, they will say, trouble is with you is your fat and lazy, but they wont write up a prescription, they will say he is a voucher for a bike.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 28th October 2021 at 12:49

I can't into the why's & wherefore's of cycle lane. I just think its a boring PAD...sorry Mick, better luck next time.

Comment by: DTease on 28th October 2021 at 13:26

Truthfully Mick, do you own a car?

Comment by: Dave on 28th October 2021 at 13:43

All public transport to be converted to electric trams , buses and trains and to be made free for all users .
Airships to replace HGVS.
Monorail to run down the central reservation of all Motorways . The tarmac to be grassed over and returned to agriculture .
International travel by boat or airship only.
All cretinous activists who blame global warming on flatulent cows to be jailed.
Joy riding in space by millionaires to be banned. It was brave and intrepid in 1969 , now it's obscenely self indulgence .
Walking and cycling to be practiced by the able bodied in the manner that archery was practiced before Agincourt .
Illegal immigrants who keep the central heating on all day and night with the windows wide open to be tutted at and have a disapproving finger wagged at them .
If I was pm I would bring these measures in immediately. Love Dave.

A doctor would never say a patient is fat and lazy. I am sure he would advise them in a professional manner if their condition merited that. Some people are large and a medical condition can cause that.
Yes there are flat areas on roads but then they can turn uphill. An older person needs a bus route to get to the shops. Not all old people are decrepit! As for the buses take Dicconson Lane for instance a bus has been taken off and it's probably more than a mile to walk to the shops. If they have no relatives to help them they have to rely on the good will of neighbour's. Most older people want to keep their independence and get out of the house - preferably by a bus!
( Electric or petrol!) Nor do all the elderly need a 3 wheeler bike. But as usual I am speaking to an ''I'm alright Jack " with one sided views!
Yes it was some of the rich landowners who complained about the canals.... at first! I would imagine the working class would have been glad of the work of digging them - especially the Irish..
I agree Maureen my bike was well used, I could still get on it to ride on the 'quiet' roads but that has gone by the bye around where I live. It is too dangerous. Luckily I am quite fit and can walk but I do feel for those who are not as fit.

Ye old wigan news 1800

It's been announced that some lunatics are planning on digging a trench from Leeds to Liverpool and then filling it with water so boats can travel its full length.Mrs knowabit complained to at the Wigan council meeting,  stating that these nincompoops are stupid,  have they not thought about how the boats can travel from Ince and up and over the pennines
Others shouted out that its being said that the wooden boats are going to be used to carry tons and tons of coal in them, and that her husband  who is a coalman said all that coal will sink any wooden  boat.
Another shouted out that they are going to be moving these wooden boat with horses, have you ever heard owt as daft
Farmer Jones said how will I get my cows in for milking if this canal is built

Comment by: Mick on 28th October 2021 at 17:25

Teasy yes I do, its a Hybrid
David a Monorail to run down the central reservation of all Motorways is an excellent idea, one that Ive had myself

Comment by: TerryW on 28th October 2021 at 18:12

More nasty comments by Mick.

Comment by: DTease on 28th October 2021 at 19:26

Most cars are hybrids these days Mick, so it seems that you can be selfish yourself when the occasion suits you! A bit hypocritical that is Mick.

Comment by: TerryW on 28th October 2021 at 21:11

Totally agree.

Comment by: Edna on 28th October 2021 at 22:52

I have come to the conclusion, that Mick just sends photo's in like these, to create animosity!!

Comment by: Alan (on Vancouver Island) on 29th October 2021 at 00:07

I have come to think that Mick is a brilliant comedian.

Comment by: Veronica on 29th October 2021 at 09:42

As they say it takes all sorts! Funny as toothache I'd say.

People think their fit, but spending all day sat down behind a computer, can't help.
Looks like quite a few people are on here every single day.
