Baldy's Pies makes me think of a barber's shop making pies....it's a bit Sweeney Todd for me! I'll stick with Galloway's!

Comment by: Joan on 27th October 2021 at 09:09

Ive not been very well mick so I not been looking at these photos.

Comment by: Veronica on 27th October 2021 at 10:18

Looking at those pie making premises I think you could be right Irene. Even though they sell their products to Bents where you can pay £3 plus just for a scone!

Comment by: Phil Taylor on 27th October 2021 at 10:19

Baldy's Pies are the best pies in Wigan!

Comment by: James Hanson on 27th October 2021 at 11:43

Ive heard Baldy is not actually bald.

Comment by: TerryW on 27th October 2021 at 12:03

What a horrible looking place. I wonder what their hygiene ratings are.

Comment by: Ray on 27th October 2021 at 12:43

Yes, TerryW, What a dreadful looking factory.

Comment by: Pw on 27th October 2021 at 13:09

Anyone know where you can buy them? I would give them a try.

Comment by: Poet on 27th October 2021 at 13:15

Their hygiene rating is 5 stars . Very good . I've never tried the pies but their website is full of rave reviews and the products look delicious . I'll definitely try one in the Crown at Bradley .

Comment by: TerryW on 27th October 2021 at 13:35

I hope their pies look better than their premises do. I think I will give them a miss.

Comment by: Veronica on 27th October 2021 at 13:37

They are sold at The Plough and Harrow Shevvy they must be good or they wouldn't have passed the Parish Council also Windy Harbour Farm Shop - windy being the operative word....

Comment by: Cyril on 27th October 2021 at 14:16

Though I haven't had any of them myself so can't personally comment on them, I have heard and read some very good reviews about them.

Never judge a book by its cover. Uncle joes mints at Wigan looks grotty from the outside but is very clean inside. I have a chip pan which is black .outside with use but inside you can see your face in the shiny metal

Comment by: Cyril on 27th October 2021 at 15:32

Agreed the exterior leaves a lot to be desired of a food establishment, but Baldy's do have a 5 Star Hygiene Rating, whilst a food establishment some folks consider to be a posh restaurant only has a 1 Star Hygiene Rating.
So as the saying goes - You can't judge a book by its cover.

Comment by: Garry on 27th October 2021 at 16:12

They sell them in a trailer van at the top of Gerard Street Ashton.
I do believe they are expensive.

Comment by: Wiganer on 27th October 2021 at 16:13

Looks like a tattoo shop.

Comment by: Linma on 27th October 2021 at 16:30

A chip pan black on the outside and a black wok is the sign of a good cook.

Comment by: Pw on 27th October 2021 at 17:34

Cyril,I presume you mean Alberts.

Comment by: Mick on 27th October 2021 at 22:12

Joan was it Covid

Comment by: Cyril on 28th October 2021 at 00:00

PeterP, great minds think alike concerning book covers.

Pw, no names mentioned, it might be Sweaty Betty's or Fat Burt's. ;¬)
Lets hope the food establishments that are rated as 1 Star and have been given the chance to improve their hygiene standards, actually do get down to some serious scrubbing etc., and so keep their customers safe from serious illness or even death.

With food places closed when it was the lockdown you would have imagined it to have been the perfect opportunity for some general deep cleaning and sprucing up to have been done.

Comment by: Kim on 28th October 2021 at 09:29

Yes Cyril,if Albert's is anything to go by sounds like 'fur coat and no knickers' !

Comment by: WN1 Standisher on 28th October 2021 at 12:58

Looks like another part of the Peter Blonds sewing factory on Clayton Street. It's a hell of a coat though Kim :)

Comment by: Cyril on 28th October 2021 at 13:19

Kim, I've not heard that saying for some time. :¬)

We wanted our shop to look a little different to the rest… Our pies are very different. We hold a 5* hygiene rating & our kitchen is open if you want to come in & check it out ???? After starting this company with my business partner Chris we have achieved two national pie awards in 11 months, one being the best chicken pie in the country. If you haven’t been, you must try us out ???? Two Wigan lads trying to make Wigan proud ????
