Was that the old petrol station or Turners car sale office, what ever it was is an eye sore now.

Comment by: Tom on 25th May 2021 at 08:37

Is that what used to be the petrol station?

I look forward to photo-a-day every morning but that is depressing! Roll on Wednesday.

Comment by: Mick on 25th May 2021 at 10:51

Dave & Tom, it looks like it was a shed to me, but I don't live in that area so I don't know what it was before.
Irene, its just a street scene of Wigan, I noticed the Ambulance and Fire Station photo didn't depress you, so maybe its just you feeling a bit down in the dumps this morning

Comment by: Poet on 25th May 2021 at 11:13

On a positive note , at least the fire brigade didn't have far to travel .

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 25th May 2021 at 11:26

Yes, I do feel down in the dumps today, Mick, so the photo didn't help! It is such a contrast to yesterday's cottages scene.

Comment by: Mick on 25th May 2021 at 11:44

Try looking on the bright side Irene, because the drug addict who set fire to this building didn't die in the fire so that positive news should perk you up a bit.

Dave Lewis - it's what's left of the kiosk from the old service station, later a car wash.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 25th May 2021 at 12:50

A stark contrast to yesterdays photo Mick but I suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Comment by: Jembo on 25th May 2021 at 13:01

It’s a piece of social documentary. It doesn’t need to be pretty. At least this one is in Wigan.

Comment by: Veronica on 25th May 2021 at 14:09

I don't think it's worth taking a photo of. We see enough degradation as it is, with wrecked bus shelters and phone booths. Will this serve a purpose and solve the problem ... I think not.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 25th May 2021 at 14:26

Mick, your last comment has made me laugh for the first time in ages....you're priceless! Thankyou! xxxxx

Comment by: Edna on 25th May 2021 at 15:00

I agree Irene, I was quite depressed when I saw this.I think we look forward to having our spirits lifted, especially in this last year.

Comment by: Veronica on 25th May 2021 at 15:16

Not forgetting the scum who did this will be quite proud of themselves. More so if there's a photo for all to see as well as the honest folk walking past it and shaking their heads in disbelief. They'll just be pleased at the notoriety they've achieved. Still it's not as bad as stabbing anyone unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Comment by: Rainh on 25th May 2021 at 15:30

How big is this space? Could it not be made into a green space with a few benches perhaps for folk to sit and enjoy ? Or has a developer already snapped it up .

Comment by: Mick on 25th May 2021 at 15:52

Rainy this area and the old ambulance station plot are going to be turned into a state of the arts music, theater and concert hall, linked to the newly developed Wigan Pier complex.
I just hope they get rid of that badly laid cobbled tow path, other wise the lady visitors to these venues with find it very hard work walking along in there high heels.

Mick: If your trying to sell bedsits in Shevy I’am not interested, my standards are more up market than what your showing.

Comment by: Rainh on 25th May 2021 at 16:28

Thanks Mick .
