Keep a look out on www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk as I will be posting details of speedway meetings at Wigan , Poolstock and away meetings raced by the Warriors in 1947 fairly soon. If you want to see how Wigan got on at Middlesbrough and Sheffield in 1947 - have a look at the site now.
The site also has details of the venture at Fleetwood which became the home of the Wigan team in 1948.

I was born in Belle Green Lane, Higer Ince. Your page is brilliant to scan back to the old days. I remember going down to Ince Bar weekly to collect my library books from the travelling library, and once got knocked down going over the crossing by a scooter. Did I get in trouble from my mam. I have once criticism and that is that no schools appear on your page, it would have been nice to see them again. Carry on the good work.

I live the other side of the world, I come from Wigan and have lots of friends who come from Wigan and we all say the same. You cannot beat Pies that come from Wigan, they are the best (same as the people) and I know we all miss them, even my children talk about them and they were young when we left the UK

Hurray for David, obviously a normal person who has a sensible outlook.Poor Tony,do you have nothing better to do than put a whole town down? I'm sure you won't find a site as informative and interesting, but if you have, then please tell us about it.I'm not getting at you,Tony, but at least get to know the town and its people before you judge. Wiganers are funny, friendly and we are the ULTIMATE PIE-EATERS.

Wigan, the town you call educated, interested only in eating pies - don't you know it's a joke.
I'm not an educated man I admit. I'm just a working class man, born in a town that was the home of generations of coal miners and cotton workers, the same people that helped make Britain great.
But for towns like Wigan you wouldn't be living the good life in your little town that nobody has heard of.
So don't call us, we never asked you to go on the site.
Uneducated, there are more self made millionaires in this district than you could possibly hope for in your sad little town.

Further to my previous posting, there seems to be a common belief amongst the locals of Wigan that pies are an exclusive commodity of their small town. May I take this opportunity to point out to them that pies are commonly available in towns and villages the entire length and breadth of the country and are enjoyed by many. I would advise taking trips outside of your immediate locality, look through the larger window and absorb the information available. The symptom you all suffer is known as ' Small Town Mind '.
