Please, Please, Please stop telling everyone that I once lived in Wigan, it's awfully embarassing and they all poke fun at me up here you know ! And I turn over in my grave whenever I hear anyone say 'It's Turned Out Nice' ! Anyway, I was thinking of haunting Wigan Little Theatre for a laugh but I think I'll haunt the council chambers instead because I'll fit in there, being dead an' all that.

Born & bred in Wigan. No family there now, so rarely visit, but interested in my history!

I have relatives near to Wigan. I love looking into history and find modern history very educational. However, I must say that the Wigan people who continue to try writing in a Lancashire accent and talking about pies all the time are only fuelling the ideas of the media who still refer to Wigan people as ' Backward Villagers '. Why, on my last visit to Wigan I followed a car with a sticker in the back window proclaiming that it's occupants, being Wiganers, actually lived in Mud Huts ! I ask you, is this a way to promote the area in which you live ? I also passed the grotesque, monstrosity of ' modern art ' which has been erected on the approach roundabout off the M6. On questioning my uncle on this he informed me that it represents the ' Spirit of Wigan '! My God ! That will give the visiting football fans something to smile about, no doubt.

Well, I went near Wigan once, with Terry and I feel I must say that if Lancashire was to be given an Enema, Wigan would be the place where they shoved the tube !

have just come across your message from alan hunter of bryn aged 71yrs i have known alan for 65yrs & last saw him when he would be 14yrs old (1944).would be great to know if he still remembers ferdy from old road i used to visit alan at his granmothers house on wigan rd next to tanny wrights shop
