Stunningly beautiful, the most wonderful scene my eyes have ever gazed upon. My cup runneth over with abundance of joy and happiness.

I have two orange red hot pokers in my garden and they are only about 9" tall. I like how in the photo they are growing in gravel.

Nice photo....go back in a year or two & see how it's grown & filled out.

One of my favourite places Haigh Hall Mick, never heard of yellow only Red Hot Pokers, but who cares, it's lovely.

I am sure these are Red Hot Pokers, they usually are yellow further down the flower stems. That's why the flower coloures resemble a red hot poker.

Red Hot Pokers turning into Red Hot Embers by now and coming to an end like my withering Begonias… . The formal garden is perfect for Haigh Hall.

Brings back memories for me my grandad used to have them in his garden in the 60s and 70s i knew that was haigh hall with the house in the background.

They have made that area very nice Mick since I was last there, thanks for the photo.
I think they might be a variety know as 'Sunningdale Yellow'. Pronounced with a silent 'K', Kniphofia is a native to Africa and was first described as genus in the Asphodelaceae family in 1794.
Just a bit of useless information to while away the day.

Correction;
Wile Away!!!!

Colin, you were right first time....it's "while away the day", (or the time).

I was told by one of the gardeners that all poker plants start red, then yellow and then white as they get hotter.
They're a bit like peppers; they all start green, then yellow, then red, don't you know.
I can't wait until next spring and blow my nose on one of the handkerchief trees hankies.

Good photo Mick, the Friends of Haigh Hall volunteers are making the hall grounds look grand, and in time for when the land train begins running.
Red Hot Pokers can put on a great display, and depending on the variety they do resemble a red hot poker, and obviously wouldn't have been a favourite flower of King Edward ll.

I’ve got a couple of nice little picture books that I think you’d like Irene .
I’ll drop ‘em off next time I’m passing if I can think on .

Comment by: Mick on 30th August 2025 at 18:48

You're correct, Cyril, it is a very good photo.
