Amusing Sign
Some do pick up dog poo in those small black bags, only to throw them in the trees and bushes. You see it everywhere. Thanks Brian.
I can see it's been damaged by three bullet holes. I suppose it's better to shot at the sign than the wildlife.
“Grr it’s not my fault - it’s my lazy ,dozy owner innit?”
Even the dogs are annoyed!
Different photo indeed Brian.
Thankyou, Brian...that's cheered me up. Time we had a bit of a laugh on here. I haven't had a walk down the cut-bank for ages so haven't seen this. We're looking after our Jamie's dogs Wilson and Rudy for a few days soon so we'll take them down there to have a read!
Near Abram but nowhere near Potteries Road. Should we be giving the What Three Words reference for picture locations?
A timely reminder to dog owners....hope they take notice of it but there are still some folk who think it doesn't mean them or maybe it just shows that they can't read !
The problem is some dog owners don't bother about signs, if you see dog poo around our road pavements, they'll not pick up on the canal paths. Sad but true. I always use the toilet myself.
WHY can the same people, (or maybe person?.....first two comments), do NOTHING except moan and see the negative side of every photo? WHY can't they see the humour in this? They must lead a very sad life. They'll still be moaning when they're in a wooden box, that the brass handles aren't shiny enough! And Brian has done the best thing by saying it's "near Abram" , and saved a lot of argy-bargy. .... After all, does it really matter if it's in Abram, Golborne or Platt Bridge? It's the amusing sign that matters, and I for one thank Brian for bringing a bit of much-needed fun to p-a-d. The unnecessary pedantry over the exact siting of a building over the last two days has completely taken the shine off the photos of The Honeysuckle Pub and The Cotton Works.
.Ozy or is it Eddie.
Just read your comment yesterday at 23:20 which gave me much to think about.
On the assumption that WW is care home for the terminal confused. How do we know on PAD who are staff and who are residents?
I would speculate that Mick Byrne, Dennis, Colin Traynor and Brian are Psycho Therapists who come in every day to stimulate the residents with pretty pictures as a topic of discussion before they get on with basket weaving.
But who are the permanent residents, who are the care workers and who are bullying nurses?
There are of course visitors who leave comments before they depart and those who look through the window, saying nothing not wishing to get involved.
Which leaves me worried and wondering what exactly am I? A visitor or a day patient waiting for a bed to come available as today I am very much stimulated by Brian’s colourful photo and the topic up for discussion.
Well done to Canal and River Trust...but very few dog owners will take no NOTICE of this sign. Most walkers with dogs couldn't care less.
Thank you Brian.
Irene, I must thank you...i was very remiss in not commenting that Brian's PAD is very amusing , it made me smile !
Yes a bright and informative photo Brian but the Amusing message will be lost on those dog owners who have no respect. And as for those who think they are doing us a favour by decorating trees and fences with poo bags!!!!!
Irene I hope you don't include Arthur.
People have opinions you know.
Arthur lives near me and is the nicest man you could ever meet, and so honest. Most dog owner do abide by the rules and like anything in life some don't. Sadly.
It should say -
Attention dogs
Please try to hold it in until you get home, then do it on your own garden.
Thank you.
Irene.
With reference to your comment above, about certain people always seeing the negative side of photos.
They do it because they know people like you will ALWAYS rise to the bait.
If you ignore these sad little losers instead of bouncing back at them, you will deprive them of the 'oxygen' they need.
WN6 These these paraphrased creepy words and the haunting drum beat from Napoleon XlV might give you something to think about:
Remember when you came on line
And I got on my knees and begged you
Not to leave because I´d go beserk?
WELL,
You left me anyhow and
Then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I´ve gone completely
out of my mind
AND
They´re coming to take me away,
Haha, they´re coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the funny farm at Wigan World
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I´ll be happy to see
Those nice young men
In their clean white coats
And they´re coming to take me AWAY,
HA HAAAA
You thought it was a joke,
and so you LAUGHED, YOU LAUGHED!
When I had said that losing you
Would make me flip my lid,
Hope your not offended and find this also Amusing
Reminds me more of that wonderful film “One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest” I wonder who Nurse Rachett is?
I love the end when the big man runs away to the beat of the drums…
He’d been fooling everyone all along…
Wigan’s Home For The Permanently Bewildered is at Robin Park, Newtown.
You can’t miss it, it has a blue lamp outside.
Irene, you don't have to wait until you're looking after Wilson and Rudy to walk along the canal. Get out there this afternoon; the weather is a bit cloudy, but it's going to stay dry.
Sorry to spoil your morning by telling the truth, well, maybe not bullet holes, but air gun pellet holes.
And the local lads who have used the sign as target practice will be shooting at all the wildlife to see along the canal bank.
I certainly didn't mean Arthur, Robert, and I have had three dogs of my own and know only too well the problems caused by people who don't clean up after them, and am not surprised that people feel as they do. But there is one person on here who NEVER does anything but moan and sees only negative points in every photo, and he knows who he is, and that's who I meant. I added that comment at 9.32 am BEFORE Arthur added his, so I had no idea he was going to comment as they both appeared in the same update. I have every respect for Arthur. We are all only too aware of the irresponsible dog owners but today's post is about the dogs having their own "notice" to read in their own language, and it was meant to be funny. Instead, it has seemingly backfired and I feel so sorry for Brian who was just trying to make us smile. People just seem to have missed the point, or, in this sad world we now live in, are we all just forgetting how to laugh?
Spike Milligan was right, it WAS the rest of the world that was mad and not him.
You're right, Tony. I've said before that anybody who you think is not real, just ignore. I've been practising this for many years with a certain member.
It still doesn't stop them from attacking me and getting their internet friends to do the same, but I just rise above them, and I think it drives them mad.
Tony L, you have hit the proverbial nail on the head....ignore them, dont rise to their bait.
Yes, it is a good funny and informative photo, and I assume it applies to all of the canal banking, and not just here, if not it should.
I no longer venture along the canal banking, so would never have seen any of these comical signs.
I too agree Irene, it shouldn't matter as to where in the borough the photos are taken.
I also agree with you Mick, with the sign being a better target, but the megalomaniacs will always shoot at any bird whether roosting or flying, and with swans, ducks and other swimming birds on the water always being an easy target.
Thank you Robert.
I don't believe for one minute that Irene was referring to me.
I have the upmost respect for Irene and Veronica. Look after yourself Robert.
I beg your pardon Irene I most certainly got it wrong, my apologies.
I totally misread the comment. X
Irene, Sue make a valid point.
As a dog walker myself, I see poo bags in bushes everyday. Awful.
Cheers Brian.
I pass there regularly but never noticed those bullet/slug holes and I do wish the Canal & River Trust would make it easier to exit and enter the towpath at Lily Lane.
John, I agree with you wholeheartedly about the poo bags, but people just angrily jumped on that subject today, completely missing the point of Brian's photo, which was the very amusing sign for dogs to "read"...the joke just somehow seemed to go over everyone's head, which is such a shame. I will certainly take my son's dogs past it when we look after them soon, and I will say, "Now, read that, lads, and think on!". I can almost hear Wilson saying "Ey-up, Our Rudy, Grandma's off on one again....tek no notice, lad!". I assure everyone that I will clean up after them and will take the poo bags home with me!
The point is the notice is including the dog’s
remark..( if you can call it that in doggie language!) I have never seen a notice like that. Thinking about it dogs do try to ‘talk’ to us humans. Especially when they put their head to one side and look at us making a throaty sound as if asking a question…such as are we going out now for a game of catch..? I know ours does that. They let us know what they want in their own language.§;o)).
Irene does make a valid point as well.
It just so who the people who are running the canals are these, by trying to make a dog joke out of a serious, dirty subject.
