Face of Wigan

Face of Wigan
He;s started to get a golden glow with all this sunshine we're having, it's a shame about the bins.

‘The Face That Launched A Thousand Tips’, and quite a few slag heaps, thankfully they have all been removed.
I think The Face must be made in high quality stainless steel as it always looks so bright and clean.
Well captured Mick, framed in those trees. All new and modern on the site of the old buildings in The Wiend.

What a miserable Mug!Look at that expression! He looks as if he's constantly moaning and disapproving and looking down his nose at people. I just can't think of who he reminds me of.

Comment by: Mock on 14th July 2025 at 07:32

Nice photo Mick you're right it does appear to be golden.
A new word you could have used instead of bins would be street furniture.

Comment by: DTease on 14th July 2025 at 08:08

What does this ‘Thing’ made of a few thousand old tin cans have to do with Wigan?
The bins are more interesting than the ‘Thing’.

Did you have the shakes on Mick when you took the picture? It all looks a bit fuzzy in the background.

Comment by: good old days on 14th July 2025 at 08:31

the bins r there for a reason looks like they doing there job not like the rest off the town center

Comment by: Veronica on 14th July 2025 at 09:07

Wigan is depressing enough without seeing that tin head and his bulging eye balls. He’s not improving with age either. Ugliness personified..

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 14th July 2025 at 09:10

I must confess having walked past it a thousands times I’d never taken notice of that miserable expression. Perhaps it just melted away in the current heatwave.
Mick, you could have shouted ‘Smile, you’re on Wigan World’.

Comment by: DTease on 14th July 2025 at 09:17

He looks like he’s just come back from a fortnights holiday in Shevvy Parish.

Comment by: Mutley on 14th July 2025 at 10:28

Mick you've captured everything in this photo, the best yet.

Comment by: Tommy T on 14th July 2025 at 10:36

The face that sunk a Thousand Dredgers and paid for by the Council tax.

Comment by: WN2 on 14th July 2025 at 11:04

At least Mutley likes it. We will have Sue appearing soon to tell us what a fantastic picture Mick has taken.

Comment by: PeterP on 14th July 2025 at 11:41

Installed in 2008 as a temporary exhibit(6 months) still looking down at us with its miserable face

Comment by: Dick Dastardly on 14th July 2025 at 11:47

I've always wondered who's been masquerading as Mutely and now we know .

Comment by: DTease on 14th July 2025 at 11:52

Mutley, this photo is totally out of focus.

Comment by: Veronica on 14th July 2025 at 12:29

If a black wig was put on his head he would be a Mr Bean lookalike. Perhaps there’s a camera in that space behind his ears
watching for folk dropping litter when there’s bins in front. It’s time he was melted down… or sent to some inconspicuous village where hardly anybody will see him.
He could be used as a scarecrow in the fields around about.

Comment by: Veronica on 14th July 2025 at 12:45

Dick Dastardly I knew it wasn’t you masquerading as ‘Mutley’. Good that you are back! One less name being used!

Comment by: Tom on 14th July 2025 at 13:00

I've always had an inkling that Mick comes on here as DTease.
If you want to see an ugly statue, go and look at the Wigan woman standing next to Wigan Pier. Just had a thought, I think it was removed because of the criticism the CRT was getting

Comment by: Veronica on 14th July 2025 at 14:10

You must be joking Tom Mick - Dtease is far too quick witted and intelligent to sink to those depths.

Comment by: Mutley on 14th July 2025 at 15:13

DTease, get your eyes tested.

Comment by: DTease on 14th July 2025 at 16:28

Try to enlarge it Mutley and see what you get. It’s way out of focus.

Comment by: Sue on 14th July 2025 at 16:48

I like this photo very much indeed.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 14th July 2025 at 18:26

Being out of focus is a blessing with that ugly mug. And I agree with Veronica....DTease always posts under his own chosen name of "DTease" and his funny and witty comments are instantly recognisable.

Comment by: Pw on 15th July 2025 at 12:27

There always seems to be negative comments about this.I think it is very good and must have taken some effort and planning to build. People should have a good look at it instead of just a cursory glance.Everyone to their own.
