That maybe a nervous swan...but a pretty brave human.
Great photo John.

Comment by: Garry on 24th March 2024 at 07:23

Looks like they are both nervous, takes guts and bravery to do that. Good photo and different.

Comment by: Alan on 24th March 2024 at 07:30

Open your hand then, I'm starving. Perfect photo John.

Comment by: Abram Alice on 24th March 2024 at 07:33

I like photos of people doing something.

The swan ought to take a self assertion course at Bownes on Windermere.
They just take what they fancy up there ....... and they'll most likely beat you up if you don't comply . It's the humans who get nervous .

Spring into action with this one John, its fantastic.
You've got the job, more of these please.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 24th March 2024 at 08:52

Nice picture John.
I tried that when I was about five in Mesnes Park and nearly got my hand yanked off. I’ve had a healthy respect for swans ever since!

Comment by: Sue on 24th March 2024 at 09:13

This photo is much better than demolition sites.
Love this and Spring is in the air, what could be more better.

Comment by: Arthur on 24th March 2024 at 09:18

I like this, pity the Weather doesn't play Spring time.
Swans can be dangerous if their young ones are about.
Very good photo John.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 24th March 2024 at 10:22

Was you luring the swan in John, or was the swan luring you in!
Either way it makes for a cracking photo, brilliant!

Comment by: Meg on 24th March 2024 at 10:27

Lovely photo John. You're braver than I am !!

Comment by: Pw on 24th March 2024 at 10:37

Used to feed the swans on Sammy’s flood when we were kids and were told to be careful as their wings would break your arm.It was a load of rubbish but the swans were scary but if you stood your ground they just hissed at you and realised it was easy food .

Comment by: Veronica on 24th March 2024 at 12:02

Very nice John. Also I do like knowing what’s going on..there’s plenty swans in Wigan Park swanning about and on the canals. I wouldn’t dare go so near. Must breed ‘em tough in Howfen.

Cheers everyone I very often take swan & duck food when riding towpath but a totally different story this morning riding along the Sankey Valley trail one resident swan nearly knocked a friend of his bike so I walked past using the bike as a shield I did stop for a chat but I’m sure it didn’t listen,I know exactly what you are saying poet I’ve seen ladies sit down on the forms at Bowness to eat their fish and chips only to here them screaming and throwing their fish and chips in thee air next minute running from the Swans that were taking them without being asked, that’s me Irene but not so young I’d say I was in the departure lounge at 77 hahaha you have just got to smile.

Comment by: John(Westhoughton) on 24th March 2024 at 14:27

By the way that swan had just wacked a dog that ran to it so well protected.

Comment by: DTease on 24th March 2024 at 16:06

“So anyway swan, don’t hurt him too bad, just break his arm for me and there”ll be more of this when the jobs done”

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 24th March 2024 at 16:40

Gerraway, lad....you look like a Spring Chicken!

Comment by: John (westhoughton) on 24th March 2024 at 17:02

Dennis the swan was in the canal when we were going to the windmill at Parbold but out on our return,we walked to one of your favourite places the Pike Friday but them steps coming down from pigeon tower play havoc with my knees, getting oud.

Comment by: John (Westhoughton) on 24th March 2024 at 18:33

Veronica I wouldn’t say tough hahaha more like friendly especially with swans.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 24th March 2024 at 18:54

John, I am sure this will not be your Swan Song, keep getting on your bike and keep ‘ducking’ under any branches with camera at the ready.
Cheers for today’s pic.

Comment by: John(Westhoughton) on 24th March 2024 at 19:22

Dtease I can assure you that comment is like water of a ducks back to me and will not rise to anymore of what the cow left in the field from you!

Comment by: John (Westhoughton) on 24th March 2024 at 19:26

Cheers Colin nothing wrong with decent folk.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 24th March 2024 at 19:56

I was down at the bottom on Friday John, had a walk round Horwich but didn’t overdo it.
If the weather improves I would like to get back on the trains and broaden my horizons a bit.
I love those days when you can get up in the morning, catch the train to Man Vic or Piccadilly and then go anywhere you please around Greater Manchester, and all for practically nothing.
May the blessed bus pass never die.

Comment by: DTease on 24th March 2024 at 21:12

John I was just alluding to your comment about the swan having just “wacked” a dog. “Wacked” being what the mobsters in America used to do.
No offense meant or intended.

Comment by: John(Westhoughton) on 24th March 2024 at 21:22

Dennis I fully agree with you I’m due to pay the £10 for the train and tram cover on the bus pass but been told I’m not covered on the new trams at Blackpool after working all hours supplying concrete from Stargate to Fleetwood for those new tram tracks but maybe different now.
