'' Another one bites the dust''

just put the cobbles back

Just hope the Council change their mind and keep and refurbish the Market Hall and the Clock Tower. Might not be much of a interest now but it would do in 100 years time.

It looks like there’s still some cobbles when enlarging the photo. Unless my bleary eyes are playing tricks..

It reminds me of that poem, "The Wasteland".

Veronica I think it’s the track marks of the machines that have demolished the buildings and levelled the ground that you can see maybe.

freddie, my first thoughts as well.

Veronica they probably just tarmaced/cemented over the cobbles

I also hope the clock tower is kept Colin, but it seems that whoever it is on the council town planning they're adamant that everything has to go, they'll probably be just like the ones who have been here once before, and who after having made a right mess of the town centre made a quick exit, and probably ended up with better paid jobs elsewhere.

Veronica, it does look as though there are cobbles (or setts to keep the pedantic's quiet) there peering up from the mud, and I'm thinking that it would have been Mesnes Terrace that would have been just around that spot, the street where at the right side Hope Methodist church would have once stood.

See Sir Bob's Performing Pigeons are having a roost on the clock tower, they must have just got back from having a good scoff at the park.

Eh bi gum, sixty two years ago I trudged over them cobbles morning and afternoon going to T.L.S. from the old bus station, been chased across by 'Clapper' and rode on many a fairground ride. Dashed through the revolving door into the market, once inside to me it was like Aladdin's Cave, the size, the smells , the chatter and friendly faces. Thank God they
can't take your treasured memories away from you.

I think they're tracks from the heavy machinery. I went past yesterday and it had all been covered in tarmac.

Peebee,
I probably ran alongside you at times. I sometime came down Makinson Arcade ( if I caught the Abram bus) Clapper ( Bill Lyon) was in action that way also.
