That's brilliant, I love it.

Comment by: Broady on 11th August 2023 at 05:47

What junior school painted that monstrosity? Not very good at all.

Comment by: Veronica on 11th August 2023 at 08:01

Another cover up to add to the other drab facades in a forgotten street. The cheek to ‘raise a glass to the past’ and a ‘portal to the future’ with scenes from the past!.
A pithy attempt to draw the youth? They cram the trains bound for Manchester… who can blame them? Wigan must have their own ‘in house’ Artist . There’s a few of this type of artistry hiding the empty shops.

Comment by: freddie on 11th August 2023 at 08:15

Broady do you mean "which" primary school? maybe you should have attended one and learned English and Art

Comment by: Silvia from Bognor Regis on 11th August 2023 at 08:24

Love it, this is what gloomy Wigan needs to brighten our town up.

Comment by: T on 11th August 2023 at 08:32

Where abouts on King St is it?

Comment by: PeterP on 11th August 2023 at 08:45

Broady that is street art and some one got paid to do it????

Comment by: DTease on 11th August 2023 at 08:47

The only thing that connects this with Wigan is the giant traffic cone

Comment by: Poet on 11th August 2023 at 08:55

Those first two comments of the day have made me chuckle . Great stuff .

Comment by: Veronica on 11th August 2023 at 09:13

Actually there’s far better poets that write their stuff on here I have to say…

Comment by: John Noakes on 11th August 2023 at 09:41

How very, very, Wigan. Not to worry, it makes a change from the usual miner wearing clogs and a flat cap.

Comment by: Tommy T on 11th August 2023 at 09:51

This is not the King St that I used to read about, for a start the Casino entrance was on Station Rd not King St, where are the drunks rolling around on the floor, fighting, I can't see anyone vomiting in shop doorways.
No this wasn't the real King St, so start telling the truth.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 11th August 2023 at 11:26

How odd that "Silvia of Bognor Regis" comments that this is what gloomy Wigan needs "to brighten OUR town up"..... "OUR town"? ....I thought she was in Bognor Regis! I rather suspect she "spends her life in SH-SH-SH....SH-SH-SH......SH-SH-SH-SH-SH-SH-Shevington", ( apologies to Nancy Sinatra and her song "Sugar Town").

Comment by: Veronica on 11th August 2023 at 14:02

What we need is shops not paintings to brighten the town up! They are just Cover ups to hide the non existent shops that closed down..now it’s Wilco’s turn… the Artist is really going to be busy with those windows…I wonder what bright ideas will be on that ‘Muriel’ ! Perhaps paintings of all the old pubs and shops?

Comment by: Veronica on 11th August 2023 at 14:15

I have only ever seen the name ‘Silvia’ spelt as Sylvia … unusual that ….
I wonder if ‘Sally’ and ‘Silvia’ are cousins.

Comment by: Ron Hunt on 11th August 2023 at 14:17

Not one inch showing King Streets Heritage. Ive bee working on the KING STREET PROJECT now for a few years. Myself and a lot of other people have put a lot of hours of research into King Street. NOTHING is mentioned about the historical aspect of the area All they (The people in charge of this Project) are bothered about is ARTS.. I don't want to be I TOLD YOU SO however I forecast at the initial outset. That in 10 years time it would still be the same.. The old COURT THEATRE /CINEMA from being an eyesore has now become a Boarded Up eyesore.

Comment by: Cyril on 11th August 2023 at 15:36

I'm assuming that this is the alley at the side of what was the County Cinema, and which leads to North West Station and Wallgate, that mural is so absolutely awful it's criminal, I've seen far better graffiti sprayed on bridges etc., why didn't they ask those talented artists to do the wall. I surely hope they don't spoil any more alley's or arcades such as the historic Grime's Arcade opposite with murals like this one.

Like DTease says about the traffic cone, there is that also a cat and a pigeon which I recognise - there's nothing else - maybe all the other depictions are from down the Bog nor Regis WN6 8EB

Comment by: Elizabeth on 11th August 2023 at 16:27

I couldn't agree more with Irene,Veronica,Broady and Tommy T.

Comment by: Sir Bob on 11th August 2023 at 17:29

It is horrible.

Comment by: Sylvia from Bognor Regis on 11th August 2023 at 17:41

Irene dear, I was born in YOUR town, my sincere apologies for saying it was our town.

Comment by: e on 11th August 2023 at 18:25

Let me go to yonder scape ,
back to where I’m knowing ,
where I feel , I know is real …
and …. can hold within my hand ..

Comment by: Marion on 11th August 2023 at 19:19

Don’t let it bother you Sylvia. You must surely have noticed over the months that there are a number of people on here with paranoid tendencies that appear to attribute any comment that offends their delicate sensibilities to Mick.
They need to get out and about more and take their zimmer frames for a spin around the block in my opinion.
My name isn’t Marion by the way, and it isn’t Mick either.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 11th August 2023 at 19:43

My apologies, Sylvia, dear, (or is it Silvia?). As you have spelled your own name in two different ways on this post, I'm not sure to whom I am apologising, but apologise I will if I have somehow misunderstood your comments.

Comment by: Veronica on 11th August 2023 at 22:10

That “number of people” can’t ALL be wrong either. Why not post under your own name “Marion”? The same one you have used before for instance.

Comment by: DTease on 11th August 2023 at 23:39

I’ll bet that some of you are getting a bit confused with all these name changes, well, not to worry folks because I have partaken of half a bottle of high octane jet fuel and it’s all now very clear to me.
You see Marion, who tells us she is not Marion is telling Sylvia not to worry ‘cos everybody is paranoid, but the thing is Sylvia is not Sylvia ‘cos Sylvia is, in fact Silvia with an i. Er,or maybe Sally so to keep things clear we’ll refer to Sylvia as not Silvia/Sally.
Here’s where it gets a bit tricky ‘cos Marion also says she is not Mick either, so we’ll have to refer to Marion as not Marion/Mick.
Meanwhile, Mick who is Mick is taking his zimmer frame for a spin round the block and I’m sure we all hope he’s got that bloody bell fixed ‘cos he nearly disappeared up Irene’s rear end the other day.
Anyway, I’m sure we are all a bit clearer now so I think I’ll spin round to Garry’s and see if he has a drop of that sherry left over from Christmas.
Cheers.

Not forgetting Dtease while you’re at it - that certain tone of self righteousness, in remonstrating for the
“perceived”under dog and ‘holier than thou’ attitude …remember??
Plus Zimmers are out of fashion these days it’s Mobility Scooters don’t you know for scooting round the block..

Comment by: PeterP on 12th August 2023 at 07:33

I did not know we has started driving on the right has depicted by the bus with the door on the wrong side. Also the nearest thing to a space ship is a water tower over Blackburn way. Where's the cotton mills pit head gear football rugby? I don't know about the traffic cone but a road full of potholes and a cycle lane would not go amiss.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 12th August 2023 at 07:38

Get Garry to pour a sherry for Veronica and myself too, DTease, and we'll christen in Voodoo Jabez so it doesn't have to use its own name! (That's the joke from the new Foster's Lager advert if you haven't seen it).
