Magnificent horses, I bet the bobbies love their job.
Well captured Dennis. What more could folk ask for in sunny Wigan….at least one chap is looking for a holiday in the travel agent’s window.

Thats nice to see, dont see mounted police very often unless trouble is brewing. Anyone know why they were in Wigan town centre ? Was a demo in the offing against WMC & their dire town plans ?!

Comment by: Garry on 4th July 2023 at 08:50

Great to see Bobbies on the beat, this is much better than riding round in Police cars, they see things better.
Cheers Dennis.

Helen it was a PR exercise in Wigan on the 22nd June with the horses and two cars on Standishgate plus a Knife arch near the bus station with 7 officers in attendance in total .This was to show joe public what they could do but never do

To me the police horses in our area always look second class to those you see being ridden by the police and military in London.

Just a public relations stunt.

Good photo, Dennis. The horses are beautiful and appear to be well-looked-after. A nicer scene than the one Peter and I witnessed last week after visiting the opticians...two women and a man having a noisy, foul-mouthed argument in that same spot. That seating area where the old underground toilets used to be certainly seems to see a bit of life!

Comment by: Gary on 4th July 2023 at 10:36

Given the colour of their horses, more like the Lone Ranger and Tonto.
Fine photo, Dennis.
If anyone is interested, the actors were Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 4th July 2023 at 12:00

I wish I had thought of that Gary.
Hi ho Silver,away!

Comment by: Maureen on 4th July 2023 at 13:15

Oh what a lovely sight to see, aren't they just beautiful creatures..and thank you Dennis.

Love it!

Look at the sheen on those horses coats, they most certainly are getting first class treatment and being well looked after. Dennis a great photo of two beautiful horses.

The grey horse is Nickleby a six year old gelding bought in Ireland last Autumn and is spending time patrolling in low level exercises to train him for the hazards he may meet when out on patrol. From here: https://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-police-horse-nickleby-820008

a nice greeting from Brunswick:
