Great photo as always. I used to go in this boozer when I worked at Walmsleys back in the day.

What a delight following yesterday’s PAD. I used to work with the daughter of the establishment when her parents were the landlords.

A lot nicer building than yesterday’s latter day pub. It’s a really cheerful outlook.

Had many good times in pear tree back in the day when Frank & Jean Fielding ran it, this pub also had prize winning Darts teams Frank was the longest serving landlord in Wigan before he retired, nice shot Dennis.

I just remembered where the large window is now was the old entrance for the coach & horses back in the days when that was the only transport.

Now that's the type of pub I like, the building looks so cosy and friendly, you can imagine in times gone by, a roaring COAL fire to greet you in the cold Winter months. A nice sherry in front of a coal fire, great.

I only ever went in here once, and that was in the mid-1970s, so a long, long time ago! It will have changed by now but looking back, even though the memory of it is hazy, I recall a nice cosy pub . It's good to know it is still thriving in these days of pubs closing down.

Used to go there weekly in the 1970's, last went in there C.1977.

Last time I walked past it, a bare footed Nick du Toit came walking out.

Comment by: DTease on 3rd March 2023 at 11:49

What size were they Syd?

Comment by: Dave Lewis on 3rd March 2023 at 11:55

Yes Garry they had 2 coal fires one in vault and the other in lounge, and as you can imagine it was very warm in there and Syd when Nick du toit ran colliers next door he never wore any footwear, quite a character to say the least.

Great Pub.

Where do we send photos for this P-A-D album?

A remember as a young apprentice how many of the ‘made men’ went to the pub at lunchtime as a matter of course . I worked in a timber industry where a few fingers less was common place . Some of the injuries I can’t even mention.
Even as a young stupid apprentice I knew this was madness
Derek triggered a memory , but is at no point aimed at you

A nice crisp photo Dennis, you always get a good one, summer or winter.
