Correct me if I'm wrong, but was this place once named Withington Country Club, some years ago.

Arthur. The Wrightington Country Club was part of the Wrightington Hotel. A Dave Whelan company although Tom and Lorraine Rathbone were directors when it was the Country Club.

Never been anything other than Wrightington Hall ,it became the property of the hospital used as a nurses home.now used as a conference and meetings centre.

Although in my opinion not quite as grand a frontage as Haigh Hall I prefer this one but if the front door were painted the colour of the stonework and not as glaring as is, would be better.
Nicely done Mick.

Arthur - the building in this photo is part of the Wrightington Hospital complex.
Wrightington Country Club is about half a mile away on Moss Lane.

This building is in the grounds of Wrightington Hospital and was Wrightington Hospital offices and nurses home if i remember correctly, in the 60's i called there once a month to see the Matron, don't get any naughty ideas, it was to collect her life insurance premium.
Keith, The Country Club is still part of The Wrightington Hotel which is now run by DW,s daughter, i go there most days of the week to drop off and pick up my daughter who works there.

Wrightington Hall is in Dobson Close, and is part of Wrightington Hospital, and I think it is used as accommodation for doctors and nurses.
Wrightington Country Club, as it was known in the 1980s, is now called the Wrightington Hotel, and it is about half a mile away from Wrightington Hall, on Moss Lane, and it actually is very close to the M6 Standish Junction (27).

Rathbone the bread man had Holland Hall, Wrightington Country Club was St Joseph's church social club, then taken over by Dave Whelan and made into Wrightington Country Club.

Mick do you remember going to the Hospital dances, you and all the bridge lads would be chasing the Asian student nurses.

Comment by: Roy on 22nd February 2023 at 14:38

The correct name of what was Wrightington Hotel and Country Club is now The Wrightington Hotel, Health Club and Spa.
Joan I can't remember any part of it being St Joseph's social club, the hotel and leisure complex was built from scratch by David Whelan.

Thanks everyone, I don't know why I wrote Withington, it should have read, Wrightington Country Club. (Old age catching up I'm afraid)
