Looking very sad now. Spent many happy Saturday' nights there dancing the night away to live bands. I remember remember the huge disco ball in the ceiling. Met my husband there too.

Been in there hundreds of times, it was the Rex cinema originally.

Met my wife here shortly after it opened. Been married 63 years now.

Congratulations Alan H there must have been thousands of romances that begun here. I only went a couple of times … the front of the place was a lot nicer then.

Been there a few times myself, saw the local lad there and his two sons on stage, Clive Powell aka Georgie Fame.
This looks like another 'old' pic from Mick, ie no leaves on the trees.

The Monaco! Three shillings on Monday nights and five shillings on Saturdays. A group on stage and the girls dancing in a big circle with their handbags in the centre of the circle. Jess Greenough and his Band playing in the interval when we all did "The March of the Mods" and the lads went across to The Balmoral for a drink, getting their hand stamped with a rubber stamp so they could get back in. Happy days!

The trees might be dead.

John, i have it on good authority from a relative who has seen all the trees today that they are massive and in full leaf, he also said that the tree in front of the building is so big that had the pic been taken recently from where Mick would have been standing you probably couldn't have seen all of the word Monaco, the tree branches are up against the front of the building.

Whats the problem with when the photo was taken.

Comment by: John G1 on 19th June 2022 at 20:35

Roy: Sorry but it’s not me, it’s some useless spoonhead who’s using my name.

Comment by: Roy on 19th June 2022 at 21:06

No problem John, to me anyway.
Syd, it matters to some, but not to others, I personally prefer up to date pics, some folk aren't bothered.

Comment by: Veronica on 19th June 2022 at 21:11

That’s a good description John G1.
It made me chuckle…

Unbelievably wonderful skies this evening due to that dust, for all you brilliant photographers on WW . Shows even pollution can create beauty .
Sorry Mick for going off your post .
