Dennis, from being a nipper I must have seen hundreds of photos of this windmill but I can honestly say, this is by far the best, well done, great photo.

Beautiful scene.

I agree with Walt; that's one of the best photos I've seen of the windmill, a view that holds special memories for me, and I'm sure for other people going down to Haigh Hall over the years. Despite the modern house, there is a timelessness about the windmill field.

Happy memories seeing this, of on our trips to Haigh Hall.Funny how different the photo looks from a different angle.

Comment by: PeterP on 20th April 2022 at 09:23

Was the windmill used to pump water out of the mines?

Comment by: David Barker on 20th April 2022 at 10:27

Not normally seen from that angle Dennis , excellent photograph.

Comment by: Joan on 20th April 2022 at 10:49

Our Jimmy says the windmill was used to pump water up to the Haigh brewery

Walt and Irene Im not one to pull a photo apart, but for this photo of the windmill to be classed as the best you both have ever seen is a little over the top.
First of all from the position the photo is taken its only showing three blades and you can hardly see the gold fish weather vane because its got the windmill blade behind it.
Wipe the sleep from your eyes and take a proper look.

I have put a comment on but it hasn’t appeared and I can’t be bothered putting it on again….. just to say it reminds me of the song “The Windmills of my mind’ ….I do think folk are entitled to their opinion as to whether they think it’s best or not!

Syd have you not gone to London yet?

Comment by: Eddie on 20th April 2022 at 12:24

Irene you should put all the special memories that you have of Haigh Plantations down in a book.

Beauty, Syd, is in the eye of the beholder, and not necessarily in the object they are looking at. Everyone sees things differently and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Perhaps Walt and I like this view because it IS different. I have seen dozens of photos of the windmill showing all the blades and the weather vane. This photo stands out because it is different from the usual view. Well done to Dennis.

Who cares Syd, it's still an iconic building which isn't normally viewed from this side by many folks, myself included.

Nice photo, Dennis.

The case of the missing Blade eh Syd? I wonder where ever it could be?
I know it's a hard one, but can anyone on wiganworld help Syd with the whereabouts of his missing blade?

I've always liked the Haigh wind mill , and this is as good a picture of it as you will see . Seems there's no pleasing some . Dennis , as the great composer Sibelius said ,
'Never take any notice of critics . Nobody ever put up a statue to a critic '.

Comment by: Veronica on 20th April 2022 at 14:08

Maybe it’s because there’s no bike propped up at the front of the windmill in an attempt at making an ‘arty’ statement.

Comment by: Maureen on 20th April 2022 at 14:14

That is a lovely shot..I'm not familiar with this area..but what a very nice place to live.

Comment by: John Noakes on 20th April 2022 at 15:58

Why call it a 'windmill' when it's a 'windpump"?

Comment by: john on 20th April 2022 at 17:08

used to pump water from haigh brewery

Comment by: Veronica on 20th April 2022 at 19:05

I wonder if that missing blade has blown off in all that strong wind we had…
