Mick it looks like it was a posh bike with a fancy chain guard and a side stand

Comment by: wigginlad on 13th February 2022 at 08:26

like the photo Mick, typically you, an eye for the unusual. Peter P, isn't the bike stand on the wrong side, with its chain in place it would not be easy to lower I think. Once someone's "Pride and Joy " this bike was.

Comment by: Veronica on 13th February 2022 at 08:51

You can bet that bike was stolen then thrown in the canal to get rid of the evidence.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 13th February 2022 at 09:32

I am afraid I thought the same way as Veronica, especially if others say it was a decent bike.
Good pic Mick.

Comment by: Wigginlad on 13th February 2022 at 10:09

Looking more closely it could have been one of those double stands maybe.

Comment by: irene roberts on 13th February 2022 at 10:11

I think it must be either Howard's or Marina's; they must have seen Pearl coming along the canal bank!

Comment by: PeterP on 13th February 2022 at 10:13

Wigginlad looking at the frame the stand would have been on the other side from the chain but looks twisted over

" I were right about that saddle though !"

Brilliant photo Mick, Ive seen other photos of when the canal been drained and it surprised me how many bikes have been chucked in.

Comment by: Mick on 13th February 2022 at 10:56

We used to smash house bricks into the ice when we were kids to see how thick the ice was and watch the air bubbles under the ice.

Comment by: David Barker on 13th February 2022 at 12:49

Just goes to show ,if you dive into the canal for a swim, what's lurking under the surface ,not a very good idea.

Comment by: TerryW on 13th February 2022 at 13:08

As long as it's not your bike, Mick.

How do we maintain a clean and safe environment when rivers, streams and canals are polluted by people who use them as dumping grounds -depressing.

Comment by: Catherine on 13th February 2022 at 19:14

You are so right Pat.

Comment by: Mick on 13th February 2022 at 21:27

Comment by: Ang on 13th February 2022 at 21:44

He probably just avoids you.

Comment by: Edna on 13th February 2022 at 23:32

I used to think the same thing David, when we used to go for walks along the canal, and see young lads jumping in, what we're they going to land on!! PS. Irene, I like your comment. At least you sometimes get a talking point Mick.

Comment by: Veronica on 14th February 2022 at 07:47

Just another example of the ' throwaway society' - from litter to fly tipping... done by low life's who don't give a toss ...( pardon the pun!)

Comment by: dot on 14th February 2022 at 14:13

Now thats a work of art, even an artist would find it hard to replicate this. Lovely patina.

As long as it's not your bike, Mick.
