There's definitely worse places than top lock !

Comment by: Syd Smith on 1st February 2022 at 06:55

Mick I don't know how you can get photos like this one, did you have to sneak up on it wearing camouflaged clothing

Comment by: irene roberts on 1st February 2022 at 08:19

Syd, maybe it was taken with a long-distance lens. I have seen deer in Borsdane Wood and Viridor Wood but I don't have a camera.

Comment by: John B on 1st February 2022 at 08:28

Is it looking towards shevington ?

Comment by: Gary on 1st February 2022 at 08:36

Mick, this is one of your best. What a good advert for Top Lock!

Comment by: PeterP on 1st February 2022 at 08:43

Over Christmas we saw one on Lees Lane(Parbold) then the week after we saw two. Again a few days after that we went down Lees Lane and saw a herd of about 10/12 crossing over the road heading towards Parbold. What a beautiful sighting.

Perhaps there's a flock of them there deer! Anyway I have to say it's a good' un. I hope he's looking South / or South East or maybe South West or what the heck!

An amazing video of the same deer here
https://youtu.be/Cw2LnXT4sOw

Syd no camouflaged clothing was worn, I would be wearing my Crane bright green cycling jacket and dark green M&S Emmetex pants

Comment by: Pauline on 1st February 2022 at 09:41

I often wonder if that's where Hind ley got its name from?

Comment by: Veronica on 1st February 2022 at 10:01

Or a herd of them even.. - before Tweedledum and Tweedledee see the photo.

Comment by: John G on 1st February 2022 at 12:27

Mick: Those Emmetex pants from M&S, are they the ones that are waterproof from out side in, or the thicker padded ones that stop water inside out? Because they do make them in camouflage green or White for Winter manoeuvres.

Comment by: irene roberts on 1st February 2022 at 12:29

Pauline, yes, that's where Hindley got its name....Hind Lea. The hind was on our school badge at Hindley Grammar. Veronica, you did make me laugh there!

Comment by: Kim on 1st February 2022 at 12:41

Yes Pauline,it is.Hindley,'the field/meadow of the hind.

Nice photo, and even better video on the YouTube link.
According to some locals that I spoke to, this deer is stranded on the piece of land that abuts the industrial estate.
It is being fed by locals, and a report has been made to the RSPCA.

Comment by: Cyril on 1st February 2022 at 13:28

Yes Veronica, them two also have a herd mentality when it comes to nitpicking.

Comment by: TerryW on 1st February 2022 at 13:46

Nice picture, for a change, Mick :)

Comment by: DTease on 1st February 2022 at 14:08

John G, if they are waterproof from inside out would that not make them incontinence pants? I've often wondered how Mick manages when he's out all day on his bike.

Comment by: Broady on 1st February 2022 at 14:28

Lovely photograph.

Comment by: Tom on 1st February 2022 at 14:35

Its a cracking video, it should be on the BBC Northwest news.

Comment by: Pw on 1st February 2022 at 14:37

The hind was also on the badge of Argyle St Secondary school.

Comment by: John G on 1st February 2022 at 16:14

DTease: Well I thought the same thing, all that travel all around Wigan and St Helen’s, but I thought don’t make it obvious, some one said in a post, can’t remember who, that he was walking through a cemetery somewhere with a limp! And now that he says he goes to M&S and he gets Emmetex nudge nudge, wink, wink. I thought I best ask him discretely.

Hart Common, Veronica.

Comment by: Bruce Almighty on 2nd February 2022 at 00:26

Mick, that's not "Top Lock" you daft sod. That's the Commercial at Cale Lane bridge.

Comment by: Veronica on 2nd February 2022 at 08:43

Does that mean the little Deer is not looking towards Hart Common? Just wondering... it's a good way off.

Comment by: John G on 2nd February 2022 at 09:50

It’s saying Veronica, I’ve come all this way down the canal bank, and the dam pub shutdown.
