I like that road down past the park and what a lovely view of it, Dennis! Where did you take that from? My grandchildren attended Parson's Walk Nursery and I remember my grand-daughter Edie rushing to the phone at home when it rang and saying "Good Afternoon, Parson's Walk!" as she had hear her nursery teachers say.

Great view Dennis, like Irene I'm curious were you have taken this from.

Great photo that Dennis, not seen the 'walk' from that angle before. I have to say the grey square box Youth Centre looks totally out of place between the 2 older buildings, Drumcroon and the old Gas Showrooms. How many coach trips, day and night, started off from there ? I bet that camera bottom right has seen some sights...

I would say the lovely well ventilated warm Youth Zone, Im sure the younger Wiganers who use it will love it.
If I had a complaint about this view, it would be who painted them big yellow letters, Bus Stop so close to a road junction.

You must have been practicing being a cat burglar - up on the roof somewhere Dennis- definitely not on top of a bus.

Fabulous picture Dennis , you ascend ever higher with each submission .

Can you access the roof of the old Morrisons building ?

Comment by: Pauline on 27th July 2021 at 12:42

Mick that puzzled me too, but it isn't at the junction ,the traffic lights are further forward.

Mick the bus stop is nowhere near the junction. There is a keep clear section for the back entrance to the old Rylance building then there is the width of the building plus the footpath before the junction If you knew the Roads in Wigan then you would have been aware of this

I think that road junction runs as an access point behind the old Tech/Gas Showrooms Mick. I agree with the bus stop location although with the Tech across the road, I don't think there's an ideal place to put it.

Look on google, it will explain everything.

Photo must have been taken from the corner of the galleries car park

The bus stop is so close to the junction that you get drivers who want to turn left queuing up behind a stopped bus, it should be further back along parsons walk.
It wont hurt bus passengers if they do away with it and make them walk from the bus station.

Went down there 1961 to 1966. Can see our old form room on the top floor of the old Thomas Linacre. Wasn’t as busy in those days.

Broady, i went down there from 1953 to 1957, i can see the classroom i had my very first lesson in, end room bottom floor, it was German with Herr Gelling, also the detention room in my time there.

Comment by: Broady on 27th July 2021 at 21:32

Roy,
You must have been part of the first intake. My German was Mrs Sadler. Used to bring her dog into classes.

Comment by: peebee on 27th July 2021 at 21:43

Oh yes I remember the detention room all right.

Comment by: Broady on 27th July 2021 at 22:55

peebee,
Were detentions not on a Saturday morning in those days?

Comment by: Roy on 28th July 2021 at 10:11

Yes i was part of the first intake straight into the second year 2A, Tricky Hilton (Art) was my form master, a grand chap.

Mick maybe they could do away with this bus stop has there is one outside the TLC, In the photo it is the idiots parked waiting to pick up from the college which are creating a problem. Would have thought if they had made a drop off/pick up zone at the front of the youth zone then there would be no vehicles blocking traffic flow
