This year spring feels greater than a normal spring . It's more a Renaissance . Soon the hour of exercise , the privilege of convicts will be gone . We will no longer flee the approaching stranger , crossing the street to avoid them like masked fugitives in a film noir . Seeing the snowdrops is like a mariner sighting land for the first time in months and knowing the hard voyage is nearly over . A life affirming photo Dennis , cheers .

Oh yes a like it!
Mine are out in full glory so is my crocuses and the daffodils are in bud and ready to burst out. I really love Spring and noticed the birds have started to sing.
Dennis you've made my day.

Deep sleeps the Winter, cold, wet and grey...Surely all the world is dead, Spring is far away. Wait!..the world shall waken, it is not dead, for lo!....The fair maids of February stand in the snow. (from The Flower Fairies). My daughter Ashley had the book as a little girl. The illustrations were beautiful but that is the only poem I can remember.

Delightful and welcome in the right place. I think I am winning my battle with them. Now contained just where I want them, preventing them from swamping everything else. Same with my war on bluebells.

Comment by: Maureen on 26th February 2021 at 08:58

Aren't they just beautiful..a sign of good things to come to lift us out of the gloom...Thank you Dennis.

Comment by: Veronica on 26th February 2021 at 09:35

Snowdrops just do not stay in my garden, I don't know why, no matter how many times I plant them. Instead I have resorted to painting them, I enjoy the pleasure of them in watercolour...not quite the same but they will always be there for me.

As a coincidence Irene, my Wife sells the flower fairies, framed on Ebay. An idea she'd had for ages, brought on by lockdown. They go really well. Nice shot Dennis

Veronica, thankyou so much for the beautiful paintings of snowdrops that you have just emailed to me. I will reply later to you but I wanted to tell everyone on p-a-d what a brilliant artist we have among us! How I wish I could post the paintings on here. You clever girl, Dolly dear! You will have to put some up in the station buffet! Thankyou, WN1 Standisher....they really are the most beautiful illustrations and I'm not surprised they go well. Dennis, as Standisher says, "nice shot". Thankyou for a very cheerful photo which seems to have lifted everyone's spirits today.

It’s always a welcome sight to see spring flowers, nature’s renewal, the warm of the life giver recovering after winter solstice.
My daffodils slumber under 3 feet of snow but will push through in April together with crocuses and tulips, it will be a show to look forward to having added a lot more last autumn.
18 F/-8C will transform to a sunny 70F/22F in a frenzy of growth of the short summer season.
The contributors to P-A-D are always great for an ex-pat, especially the snowdrops, I have a small collection with never fail to appear each spring time.

Its Pigeons that wont stay in my garden, I don't know why, no matter how many times I feed them, so Instead I have resorted to painting them, I enjoy the pleasure of them in watercolour not quite the same as real live ones but they will always be there for me.

Beautiful Spring scene. My favourite season too Garry. I didn't realise that there were many different varieties of snowdrops.
Lovely sentiments Poet - I too hope we will soon be free to go outdoors at our leisure, and enjoy each other's company once again.

Perhaps because you fire stones from a catapult Mick!

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 26th February 2021 at 14:23

I happen to know that Maureen is a talented artist too, so what with poets and artists and talented photographers, we don't need to look further afield than Wigan World for our pleasure. Well done everyone!

Why do snowdrops bow their heads ,
Hide their smiles to sleep instead ,
Catching globule marble pops ,
balanced perfect called raindrops ,
Always gentle , never gush ,
sleep forever , pause don’t rush ..

I'm not altogether convinced that Mick was responsible for the ' watercolour pigeons ' post Veebs.
What actually swung it for me is the fact that the word ' there ' is spelled correctly within the context of the post.
I mean,..come on,..that's not Mick is it?....
Now if you're reading this Mick,....I'm only joking mate......
( But if you're not reading this....then no, I'm bloody well not.)

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 26th February 2021 at 19:48

Sorry to be a misery Poet but we will still avoid strangers...this is not over yet ...behave yourselves or it will last much longer than you wish!

Comment by: Veronica on 26th February 2021 at 19:56

Even Mick can copy word for word Oz... I agree about 'there' though. But 'he' hasn't used quotations ... mmm! Not that I'm bothered - just shows lack of vocabulary having to copy.

Comment by: DTease on 26th February 2021 at 20:06

From his earlier comments, I'm surprised that Mick managed to catch any in the first place. And, how do you keep a pigeon still while you paint it?. Also, wouldn't the paint run if it went flying in the rain? I can't say I've seen many rainbow coloured Pigeons flying around lately.

Comment by: Poet on 26th February 2021 at 20:59

Hi Helen . I still take it very seriously believe me . Please note I said 'we will ' avoid the approaching stranger . But not yet , as you wisely say . My best to you .

Comment by: Veronica on 26th February 2021 at 21:10

If he did manage to catch one he'd paint it with gloss paint so it's feathers would stick together. I don't think he likes pigeons ...

Comment by: Maureen's onie on 27th February 2021 at 13:25

Veronica,do you get the feeling that there are two Micks,if so you'd think that the nicer one would put a Capital letter after his name so we could differentiate who's who..if they are the same Mick then he must be a Jekyll and Hyde character.

Comment by: Maureen on 27th February 2021 at 13:37

Thank your Irene for your kind comment,I'll have to start painting again when I get out of this rut that I'm in...roll on Spring.

Comment by: Veronica on 27th February 2021 at 14:57

There is another Mick but he does put his initial after the the name. I think Bike rider Mick is the one who doesn't like pigeons. Again he is the centre of attention Maureen - he'll be laughing his socks off!
