It should be called "Khaki Pond".

Good photo with excellent composition. Looks a bit like Vancouver Island, except for those traces of snow.
Good one. Oy.

If we weren't in lockdown I would say it looks like somewhere in the wilds of Scotland. It's a beautiful rugged scene.

Veronica's got it!.... the cloud formation just above the trees to the left look almost like highland hills.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 29th January 2021 at 09:46

Yes, I agree with Veronica about the Scotland look. It reminds me of travelling to see my daughter. Whereabouts is Parson's Meadow, please?

It has Oy written all over it,another beautiful shot.

I used this route often but it can be a dangerous place to walk through, because of the nearby residents

Comment by: Cyril on 29th January 2021 at 11:29

A lot different now to how I remember it, there wasn't any trees then just scrub and plenty heaps of grey pit slag and other reminders of past mining and also electricity pylons, on the bottom of the pond was a lot of bright red shale, suppose that will be covered over with mud and weed now.

Irene, It's between Poolstock/Worsley Mesnes and Newtown, or Robin as we called it.

Irene, Mick put a video of his bike ride through Parsons Meadow on YouTube, don't know why he didn't put on a link, maybe he forgot about it, you can see the playing fields at Keats Avenue and along the path to where it comes out on Ormskirk Road.

According to the web it is an excellent bird watching site with many varied species to see, a far cry from the last time I was over there when it was a wasteland scarred by past mining.

Thanks folks. It has a special memory for Mrs Oy and I. Back in the day when we lived on the top floor of Thackeray House we used to walk it back from ASDA via Parson's Meadow with our shopping bags. Occasionally when we fancied a treat we'd stop at Red Pond and open a bottle of el cheapo de plonko Concorde Wine and a share a quarter of Haslet.

Sounds just up my street, Dave Oy....I think Veronica and I may copy that idea now our favourite cafe has closed in Wigan! Thanks, Cyril, for the information. I will have a look on youtube.

Once a tip now look at it ,
Now to breathe, you can believe
and be the truth you are.
Mining's bin is dead and gone,
Gone to history , most every one,
But you remain when we are gone,
That is Nature, the 'real' someone ..

Cyril, when folks talk about going up and down ‘robin’ as we often do, the reason is that Ormskirk Road used to be known as Robbing Lane.
