In the distance a flicker burns ,
Sat alone the watchman learns ,
Clouds above him roll on by,
His only wish is to tell me why ,
Why am I sitting here ,
All alone without a cheer,
My firewood is all but gone ,
I’m skint int pocket not a penny one ,
My belly’s empty , my heads a mess ,
I’m told there’s hope but add the less .
Is it Fate who watches me ,
For I’m a watchman
who yet can’t see ..
